How NOT to flat tow your Rubicon

If you take a poll of the most common toads behind motorhomes driven around by seniors you'll see that the Honda CRV is about the most popular tow vehicle by a huge margin. What's even more interesting is that they have no dedicated transfer case, just an automatic that you put in neutral to flat tow. This has always puzzled me as it's an absolute NO NO for every other automatic vehicle ever made. Well, anyway, you have to do some strange voodoo with these things where you're supposed to pull over every 60 miles or so and start up the CRV and let the fluid circulate and cool. This idea just blows my mind. Not just that you would have to but what percentage of spaced out seniors already intimidated by rigs that are way too big for them to drive safely actually go to the trouble?

Maybe me having heard this 20 times is wrong after all and someone will chime in with more accurate info but it's always been a real head scratcher for me.

We have a Gladiator. It is by far the most difficult to shift the transfer case into neutral of any 4x4 I've ever owned. It does have a light on the dash to indicate neutral however.

It gets easier the more you do it.
