How tall is your van?

I have to take a ferry to get off this island and I'm getting tired of the $80.00 fare every time I take my van. Anything over 7'9" gets charged double so I'm thinking my next van should have a pop top (and 4wd) instread of a fixed hightop. I know Sportsmobiles are supposed to be 7'8+" what else is under 7'9"?
T.Low, how tall is your van? I really don't need all the room in an E350Supervan and it would cut down on the amount of stuff my girlfriend keeps in there. It would also be nice if I could be under 30' with my trailer.

I have a friend who lets the air out of the tires on his VW hightop to be under the hight limit, my van is 9' high so that isn't an option (he refills his tires once he's thu the ticket booth).

Mine is 7'1" with the factory roof rack rails reinstalled into the pop top. Would be well under 7' without the top, but you know how it rains around here:ylsmoke:

I'm at 4" lift in the rear, 3" in the front,on 30.75 MTs. Have one more setting on the lift kit shackles to still rasie the rear a little if I ever do anything more with the front.

The Thule crossbars of course raise the clearence height a couple more inches, even more with kayak saddles.

Maybe Aaron will chime in regarding stock Astro height.

My friend has a house on the water in Olga Bay (East Sound, Orcas Isl.) I can paddle over there in the same amount of time for the price of a Power Bar and a milkshake.

I come in just under 8 feet oh wait that is on the inside!! T.Low if you ever need somewhere to park your van out of the weather?? Lets see the outside comes in at just under 9 feet with the top down I know this because McDonalds has 9 ft clearance and I rub the gutter on the building in the drive through. If my memory is correct the top goes up about 40 inches. So somewhere around 12ft and 4 inches with the top up! Um wait I just lifted the van 4 inches and I am getting ready top put on 37s so add 5 inches to the total height. Basically I do not drive under anything that says low clearance period. Especially when the canoe is on the roof.

The more I think about it the more an Astro makes sense, It's under height (even lifted with a roof rackand pop top), it's under 30' with my trailer (I may have to shorten the traier by an inch), and it's an easy swap to get a real transfer case. I really don't need a huge van to tow my raft I picked this one up from the former Mayor of Concrete for next to nothing after he threw a ton of money into it and let it sit on the side of his house turning green. It's worked out well but I do need 4wd when I go to Baker (I like not having to chain up).

If I get some time this weekend (and I remember to do it), I'll try to get a measurement for my post-GTRV-converted but non-lifted Astro. I expect it to be ~4" less than T.Low's van, but just another datum...
