How the heck do ya move the center seats forward?

Ok, I've looked at two monteros. I wanted to figure out how to fold the rear two seats flat into a 'bed'. I figured out how to recline the 3rd row seats flat, and I understand how to recline the 2nd row seats. But for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to slide the 2nd row seats forward on their tracks to get enough room to make them go flat. I can see the tracks and cable mechanism, but no mater how hard I tried, I couldn't figure it out what combination of knobs and movement would move the seats forward. Is there a hidden knob somewhere? What's the 'trick'?

Thanks,

The videos I've watched say, "move the center seat/s to their furthestmost point forward..." but don't show the lever/s you pull or push that actually allows the 2nd row seats to move on the tracks. Plus, the one video is a '95 with a single row seat. Can you just tell me, or is it a state secret?

Thanks.

Hmmm... Are you talking about the big lever on the side? I tried that repeatedly. Do you lift it up? Does the seat back have to be in a certain position? Sorry, I know this seems stupid, I tried to do it on two different Monteros and couldn't unlock the mystery. Thanks

Lower the side armrest all the way down first. Then pull on the side lever and the seat back should tilt forward. You should be able to slide the seat now. If one half of the seat doesn't work try the other side first. My passenger side has to slide first before my driver's side can. Now you can pull the lever and push the seatback all the way flat.

Lift up on the lever, the seat back should go forward and then you can move the seat on the tracks.

Ok, that might make sense. I only tried the driver's side seat. Ok, I'm going to go look at another Montero, will give this a try. Let me clarify (sorry I know this seems dumb, but I tried EVERYTHING I could think of -- Twice!), the rear seat back needs to be leaning forward, but the bottom is still 'locked' to the floor. At that point, the seat should slide forward (on it's tracks). Possibly the passenger's side may need to be moved first? Do I need to still be holding the lever down at that point to slide forward? I guess I'll give it a try and find out.

Correct me if I'm wrong..

Thanks

I have a problem with mine and I spent a lot of time messing with them and trying everything I could find online with no luck. Yours might just be broken. My seats do everything they are supposed to except one side will not slide. This might be your problem, just a mechanical failure with a cable. I've already fixed one cable for the tilt feature so it doesn't surprise me.

For some it could just be candy or other kid crap that has built up on the slide and just needs a good cleaning.

made me think twice how i did mine, so i checked again. 2nd row seats in normal upright position locked - pull the side lever up, back rest will tilt slightly forward. At this point you can slide the seat forward, it's designed this way so people can get to the 3rd row.
