How to set up 2 gal air tank for OBA?

Don't forget to have a check valve as well coming out of the compressor going to the tank. It keeps strain off the compressor once pressure is built in the tank.

My setup has change a little, I am using a MasterFlow compressor now, but the routing is the same. Compressor>Check Valve>Pressure Switch>Tank>Manifold.

Oh, one more saftey measure is a popoff valve as well. Mine is on my manifold, which means my regulator is wide up all the time, I will change this around when I get a dedicated pressure gauge. Also good to have a drain valve.

This is a 5 gallon tank, it takes about 8 minutes to air up to 120. Getting up to 100 is pretty quick, maybe 5 mins, but that last 20lbs takes a while. I may end up going with two of them later on. The price is right on em.

That's the kind of manifold setup I had in mind. Neat job!

Im a big fan of the Powertank. Granted, I dont have an actual Powertank brand, I have a 15lb co2 cylinder I got off craigslist for 30 bucks (i can fill it for around 15 bucks) I bought an co2 regulator off the internet for about 50 bucks and had some airhose around the garage, so i have a whole airtank set up for under a 100 bucks. The set up i have can run power tools and Is portable from car to car (or truck to truck in this case). I really dig the portability.

Im not single anymore so the funds to buy stuff for the truck and outdoor stuff go to home furnishings, candles and purses.

RE: Check Valves. I believe the Viair compressors come with the check valve, my 460 does anyway...

I also have the Viair 2.5 gal tank
Port usage as follows
1 - Inlet (from compressor)
2 - Safety Relief valve
3 - Drain Valve
4 - Line out to home made manifold
5 - Gauge
6 - Capped

Prior to the manifold, a filter/moisture separator, then the pressure switch ( I went with a 85-105 so I wouldn't have to regulate the pressure to the ARB locker. And it puts less strain on the entire system - IMO), ARB solenoid, two QD's (one in each rear wheel well). I simply used an assortment of off-the-shelf brass fittings to fabricate my manifold. Compressor sits on the passenger front wheelwell in the engine compartment. Tank and other components mounted above the rear axle.

May I suggest that you toss the teflon tape in favor of Pipe Thread Sealant (Available at Lowe's/Home Depot). I initially used the teflon tape and had many tiny leaks. The goopy/messy sealant does a much better job...

I was wondering if you could provide a little parts list and maybe some instructions on how a guy with little knowledge of such things would go about putting his own pseudo powertank together?? Would be much appreciated if you did!

I'm in a paintball business and while I won't go into exact part numbers/suppliers etc, it's really rather simple.

for cheap parts, look up "Paintball Co2 Fill Station" and that will get you 80% of the parts you need in one fail swoop, then just put a tank on one end and regulator w/an air chuck or q/d on the other.

It won't be as pretty as the other, but it will get done what you need, and have less than $40 invested in the fill station, and a pressure gauge in line ($10-100 depending on quality/brand and new/used) (minus the tank)

Tanks can be sought locally from restaraunt supply houses etc as the nice sized ones are used to power soda fountains (make sure your fill station will fit the threading prior to purchase) or from welding supply houses (lots of different sizes/costs)

When designing your Co2 system make sure you get a standard tank (non syphon) so you are getting the Co2 gas from the top of the cylinder, not the liquid from the bottom that a syphon tank will give you. It's also important to note that you need the tank verticle for use, you can't store or lay it down without having a dip tube installed/clocked to the "top" of the tank and a method for holding the tank in the same exact locked position.

and as always keep safety in mind. compressed gas in a tank is a bomb if handled improperly and at it's best is still dangerous enough to deserve respect as you use it as it can easily freeze body parts as well and cause permanant damage if misused.

FWIW you can also make smaller systems to use to power air tools like impact wrenches etc from paintball parts very reasonably as well as use the Co2 for cooling/freezing parts like assistance in removal of sealing tar or sound deadening materials etc (freeze it and hit it and it snaps right off)
I regularly use mine as a duster to keep the dust at bay on my vending tables at pb games (usually dusty or muddy or both lol)
