So I purchased this Tundra off a board member a few months ago. I was looking for a 4 door F150 when I found this. I had always heard the Toyota reliability cry. I must say I am very happy with my choice of this Tundra over a F150. Power is better comfort is better and I expect reliability to be better as well. Bonus with is purchase was that the truck came with a shell and some Yakama bars. I never expected I would like having a camper shell but this is super convenient.
Now on to the purpose of the build. I am not a big overlander or hell even a heavy outdoorsman or camper. I needed a good reliable truck for occasional day trips off the beaten path, hauling my two dogs and girlfriend. As well as the power to tow a trailer with 2 Street bikes (track) or two quads (dunes). This truck will be my DD so I can’t go extreme with the mods. It is also my trip vehicle meaning gas mileage is not a major concern but it is in the back of my mind. It also must be able to comfortably drive 85mph on the freeway. I struck out trying to get all this out of my Cherokee. I don’t camp often but Dune trips will be sort of like camping so I plan to sleep in the back of the truck.
Plans so far are.
• Sleeping set up for bed of the truck. This will not be a platform since I use this to haul bikes on occasion and removing a platform is not something I want to mess with.
• Aux lighting. 3-4 HID fogs on a light bar on the front of the truck. No roof lights due to the already tallness of the truck and keeping stuff out of the wind.
• Some sort of canopy/awning. ( In process)
• Backup Camera (done)
• DVD player in the front (done)
• GPS (in the mail)
• CB
• Aux Fuse Block
• More as I think of it.
I am an amateur photographer so as the truck gets used I expect to get/have lots of pictures.
First pics from previous owner from for sale ad…
10 mins home removing all the stuff I did want on there
How she sits now on some BFG MT and stock wheels painted black.
I already installed the backup camera. Set it up to run on a switch so I can turn it on at will.
And the beginning of the awning. Using the Yakama bars as a mounting place should be nice at track days with the Street bikes and at the dunes…
