Hypothetically, fair asking price? 5 BFG KO2s 285/60/18

So I haven't completely decided to do this yet, a lot of it would depend on how much I could sell my current tires for. But Ive been looking into upgrading tire size, just slightly.

5 BFG KO2's - 285/60/18

4 were bought in October, have put about 6500 miles on them. Two wheeling trips.
1 I just bought last week, less than 200 miles on it.

New cost at Kauffman Tire here in ATL, was 241ea + 18 install ea. + ~100 in taxes. Puts me in around 1400.

What would be a fair asking price for them? Only want to sell locally, and would consider a slight discount to an ExPo member.

Right now (at least while I'm writing this) I could purchase 5 of these tires new off of eBay for $1112.45 (222.45 per tire). The shipping is free and I wouldn't pay tax on it. With that in mind, I'd start there and depreciate the tires by the remaining tread life.

The best way to prorate the tires would be to measure the tread depth and use that as a gauge of remaining life. Given the 6,500 mi figure you offered in your post I will do my best to surmise wear. Believing that the tires will get 40,000 miles of usable life out of them, 6,500 miles is 16.25% meaning there is 83.7% life left on the tire.

TL;DR - 4 tires with 83.7% of life left = 4(222.45*.8375) = $745.21+~210 for the nearly new tire = ~$955

I hope that helps you decide on how you'd like to proceed. Remember, it's not about what you spent on it but what the market price is. Also. tread depth is a much better indicator of remaining life than mileage.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I hadn't even looked at Ebay for comparable pricing. Duh. Your logic is sound, a buddy of mine used a similar formula as well. Guess I'll be ridino these puppies until they're finished.
