Live axles front and rear, option of a 4 cyl diesel. Why can't we all just be friends, and bring some over here?

It's a Russian POS, don't know why you'd want one other than the curiosity factor. A Pinzgauer would be better and cheaper.

Does kind of look like a VW bus, though. I can't imagine that the solid axles would be any better than the Pinz's portal axles.

meh... the military versions were all right. but as mentioned above it really just a cool looking truck. If I were to get one though, I'd definatly swap out the engine, tranny, axles...

ok... I'd just keep the body.

But it is cool looking!

I think you could acheive the same result by just getting a mid-60's chevy van and putting 4wd running gear on it.

I owned a UAZ-469 while stationed in Italy. It was great off-road but super slow on the roads 85km/hr max and you had to drive in 2nd gear at 25 mph up mountain passes. The engine compartment could probably accommodate a V8. The front seat was next to the door and the steering wheel was about 6 inches off-center from the seat. I rode in one of those "vans" at Lake Baikal.

Pretty good vehicles if you get a pre-89 (mine was an '87 that went to Yugoslavia) or maybe a post 00 but either way it is still 60 y/o Soviet technology.

The Russian motto for these is "the UAZ breaks down places where other vehicles can't even go."

Pinz has independant sus alla round... the Volvo C303 has portals...

UAZ makes quite a few oddball little 4x4's. Alot of third world countries use them for military vehicles because they're so damn cheap.

pinz is ok at best,, independant stiff susension lifts tires all the time, air cooled engine? gimme a break, cuising speed, again,,,,, mogs are better but too big and dont cruise any better. so whats my choice? the volvo C303 of course, regular drivetrain thats easy to work on, solid portal axles ect ect, great little rig. but all of them are only really good if your overland expedition involves musc more dirt than pavement.
