On Thursday, I was driving to south Texas listening to the local Saltgrass repeater. There was a conversation between two Hams. One told of being on his way to the local Ham shop (pretty close to my house, btw). He said he was going to register for a raffle for a handy talkie give-away this coming Saturday (today) at 3:00 p.m. after the annual tailgate sale. He said tickets were just $2.
Yesterday afternoon, I made it a point to get to the place and get my ticket. When I got there, I learned that it was actually a fundraiser for a local ham who has kidney problems. Needless to say, I bought more than the one ticket I was coming in to buy. I properly wrote my name, call sign, and cell number and stuffed them in the box. Honestly, I never thought I'd ever win, but just wanted to have a chance, and then with the benefit, I wanted to help the guy have a decent Christmas.
Today at 3:30, my cell phone's caller ID told me it was the Ham shop. I was so excited. Sure enough, I won the HT! :wings:
I got back to the office and checked my ticket numbers. The winning ticket was the last one in sequence. Had I bought one less, someone else would have won!
Thanks, Lord! An early Christmas present. :jumping:
I'd better go modify my radio info in the Ham list! :shakin:
