I miss my old NOKIA 6160 Car Kit

I miss my old Nokia 6160 Car Kit. It was the best in my Jeep TJ. My phone was mounted in a specific location, and it never got lost due to being bounced around the cab. It had an external antenna and amplifier, so the reception was awasome in fringe areas. And it was charged when I left the vehicle. I admit the external handset was a little funky, but it worked, and worked great when the top was off.

So now 10 years later, do we have anything comparable? I would love to have a hard mount cradle that charges the phone, a signal amplifier, external antenna.

Any thoughts?

Last year some time I looked online for good car kits. I found a company that did nice amplifiers and antennas, etc. It looked like good stuff but it was spendy.

I remember the days of 2 to 3 watt cell phones and being able to have your hard-mounted car phone and mobile on the same number....

Wilson builds the best boosters around. I've had an older 3 watt booster that I still use to boost Mobile Internet keys.

The big problem is that almost zero new Smartphones have external antenna ports. So you have to go with a wireless option and those aren't as effective as direct cable. Lots more details and options on the Wilson site.

best car kit I had was for a Motorola flip phone. Its was back in the analog days. YOu plugged in a Motorola star-tac flip phone into this cable and it would clone the ESN into a mobile mounted in the vehicle. Unplug it and the ESN on the mobile disappeared... The ECPA forced Motorola to stop making it since due the cloning. Even if it was a manufactures device.. Had that thing around until I was forced to go digital.. I miss a real "MOBILE phone".... Love my little droid when away from the vehicle, but nothing better than big phone to talk on while mobile.
