My Costco group size 35 (manufactured by Johnson controls) battery does an excellent job of starting my 2.4L Toyota inline 4 engine in my RAV4 in even the coldest weather. It does not do a good job of keeping my waeco fridge running over night and then starting the car in the morning. I have measured and there is room for a group size 24 battery. Bigger is of course better in this case. Here is my quick and dirty table of suitable battery options. I know A second battery would be ideal but I just don’t have the time money or equipment to do it right at the moment so I need a single battery solution. I know I gain a lot by going from the 35 to the 24.

$139+15 shipping claimed 174min reserve capacity approximately 89ah probably more like 75 CCA 945
Damn the price went up – sale over but an interesting side note is these are actually made by UPG.
Universal Power Group $150 75ah 945CCA - this thing is a real deep cycle battery rated as such. A website called 1000bulbs.com sells this thing cheap. One minor annoyance here is that the battery has 6mm female threads for terminals so I will need to find or make an SAE adapter
Sears $ 219 135min reserve approximately 67.5ah. It’s not actually a group 24 it’s slightly smaller; this is a serious draw back for me as its much more money and not much bigger.
Conventional dual purpose marine
Auto zone
Dura last $91 claimed 140 min reserve~ approximately 70ah 550cca
Currently the universal is my favorite followed by the auto zone dura last. Worth noting the dura last is a 3 year replacement 5yr prorated battery. The universal is only warrantied one year but the specs are good and solar deep cycle crowd seems to like them. I also like the idea of sealed AGM.
