I am new to 2m radio but very familiar w/MARBAND and SAT Phones.

Question: What / Who can I talk to with a HF/UHF/VHF radio adn are they encrypted/channeled? Also, is there a dual mode radio that uses FRS/GMRS?

What is the difference and advantages to using a HF/UHF/VHF radio and do most people run them vice a CB?

Heard that I can send data with them....possible?

If you are talking about ham radio you can talk to other ham opperators.
When you go for your licence you will answer most of your questions above, but here are some vary simple aswers to your questons. There is a lot more to these anwers but this should get you heading in the right direction.

Q. encrypted/channeled A. all communications by ham radio can not be encrypted or obscuritied
Q. Dual mode ham radio and FRS/GMRS A. No, it is illegal

:iagree: Get your license and all your questions will be answer well most. It will depend on your class on which band you can use. I put off getting my license for to long. It is so easy now, ask any "vet" who had to get cw with their ticket. After you get your license your next question is: handheld or moblie? lol...
