Imported Diesel Land Cruisers

I was just perusing the Out Back Imports page and drooling over all the diesel land cruisers and evan some of the Toyota wagons. My question is when you get one of those diesel Land cruisers and it eventually breaks, where do you source the parts. Can you local Toyota Dealership get them?

It totally depends on the model and the part you need. We got some 70 series models here in Canada so some parts from those cross over. If you need somthing like a side rear window glass for a 73 with the FRP top, you are
not going to find it at the dealership. If you need diesel parts, some again cross over but not all. There is a network of people importing these trucks now and the jdm specific parts are getting easier to find. If it is an oddball piece, you might be shopping in japan or oz...

You get quite good at cross referencing the parts fiches. Toyota, for the most part, did quite a good job not re-tooling for every model, using parts on the same year of different models of Land Cruiser.

Yes, some parts are difficult to find, but I have yet to find anything that's impossible...of course when a part hits the "unobtanium" scale, the price goes up accordingly. For instance, a 40/45 series brake booster...so many times a more common item, in my example a booster from a 60 series, can be made to work just fine.

IH8MUD is an excellent source for used parts, and I have found some from cruiserparts.net as well.

Thanks for the info. They sure do have a good source for clean 80 series. Either that or they do one heck of a clean up job..
Hiltopper your BJ70 is awesome and the fact that it is Bio makes it that much better.

Outback has probably some of the cleaner jdm rigs. They do a major service job prior to selling them. You will pay for that service though. Tyee imports is
another good place to look. They seem to be quite a bit cheaper, but you need to do your own tidy up. There is a lot of competion for the premium auction grade rigs in japan. You can source the same trucks in australia for a ton less money but they typically have 3-4 times the mileage for the same vintage. Check out a site called " carpoint.com.au " and you will see the reason for the popularity of the japan market rigs!

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
The biggest hurdle is its extremely difficult to get them into the states. I can could on one hand all the ones I know that actually made it through... The parts availability thing really isn't as bad as everything thinks as well. Some things are a little difficult but nothing too bad at all in my opinion...
