Input on trailer layout

Hey guys, I'm in the early process of designing a custom-fabbed offroad trailer to tow behind a 2nd gen tacoma. I've gotten the general design I'm wanting (still fine tuning a couple different points) but I need some input from those who have actually used a trailer before. Here's a quick screencap of the work in progress:

It's still in very early stages of mockup but here's some quick specs:

* Sits approx 2" below roof-line of tacoma

* Shown with stock 265/70/R16 and stock backspacing (obvious crude placeholders)

* 63 qt ARB Fridge

* 2 deep cycle batteries

* tacoma width axle

* 4' x 7' tub

* large 4 person RTT

* Built out of 2x2 steel tubing

These are mostly just rough place holders, and it will be a long time before I purchase any items remotely close to these.

So my issue at the moment is the main cargo area. It's roughly 5'x4'x2', I'm contemplating whether I should leave it open, or if I should try to design some sort of integrated drawer system. Any input is appreciated! Also any critique you may have on the current design is also nice, I'm using this as an excuse to get Solidworks practice in as well as eventual welding experience.

I have a similar trailer, but much more basic (and being worked on).

I am going to leave my interior open. The reason I am doing this is so that I can take out my gear in containers to put in my truck or the JK if I do not need the trailer, so that I do not run into issues where equipment does not fit or arranging gear in the future becomes difficult, and so that I always have room for unexpected gear on the road (buy something, need to haul odd items, etc...)

I use Hardigg cases and ammo boxes for my storage, so I will be adding tie-down points to keep everything in place. Also, I have a basket in the front of my trailer (like on quad trailers) where I will use a 7.62 ammo box to hold straps, tools, etc. I will also bolt my spare to the side as well as a jerry can holder which will probably be used for water or one of those Rampage brand cans that opens up for storage.

Hope this helps!

The densest items over the axle. Variable loads also over the axle. Think water/gas. I like the idea of drawers but they just seem space wasteful. Fit a couple items inside and and the rest is unused/wasted space. Removable bins may be a better option.
