Interesting chuck box at Sportsman's Warehouse

I just spotted an interesting chuck box at Sportsman's Warehouse, and thought some here might be interested. Sorry, didn't have my camera, but I'll do my best...

It is a Green steel? box with room on top for 2-burner stove. The top lid is split into two doors that hinge to the left and right, creating workspace on each side of the stove when opened. Front door drops all the way down and has a paper towel holder built in. IIRC the area below the stove (behind the front door) is divided for organization, but I didn't really notice how.

Looked like it was worth checking out.

post a pic?

Went out to Sportman's website and couldn't find the item. Can anyone post a pic or a link? Thx! Dean

When I looked at their page they did not have their catalog available online. I'm guessing we'll have to resort to the old fashioned method and physically go to one of their stores! Oh, the horrors.......

Sorry, folks, I meant to mention that they don't have an online catalog.

Also, it's a store branded item, so can't find an online pic of a similar item, like I would if it were a Coleman or something.

Looks like the Cabela's one has a one-piece lid that opens to the back, whereas the SW one I saw had a split top that opened to each side. That was the feature that I found most interesting.

My wife and I were on a chuck box quest on our last trip into the USA. We stoped at two Cabelas and about 6 Sportsmans Warehouses. Here were my findings:

The Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse steel chuckboxes appear to be similar, (if not identical) although Cabelas never had one in stock to compare. Sportsmans Warehouse was about $60 less then Cabelas though.

Overall, the build quality of the steel version at Sportsman's was very poor. Chipping paint, poorly installed handles and rust spots already (on everyone we saw - not just a one off). Really not worth the $$ they are asking for it. It's also a really confusing size and design. A good chuck box should be able to hold your cooking gear plus, in my opinion, your two burner stove. Not possible with this one. Check the measurements and you'll find out that it's smaller then it looks. Overall not recommeneded.

Sportsmans Warehouse had a plastic version that they discontinued (for about $60). This is the one with the split top an front openings that look like spice racks. We found it somewhere in ID and excitedly purchased one thinking it was great. I even got a discount because it was the last one. We then took it out the truck and tried to fill it. Sure we could get our stove in it, but my wife simply hated it. Anything but mini plates didn't fit and after putting just a few small pots inside we couldn't even fit a roll of paper towels. Disappointed, we went right back in and returned it.

So we're back to what my wife absolutely loves. A simple Action Packer. It fits everything cooking related into one small bucket. And if she's happy, I'm happy :wings:
