Interior battery mounting options

I'm planning on mounting a battery in the spare tire wheel well are on my 89 Suburban. What have you guys done to mount batteries in the interior and make sure they are secure? I'm thinking right now that I'll just get a factory battery tray, cut off whatever I need to, and weld it into the wheel well. Any other ideas I should consider?

They make battery boxes for applications like that. Check some fab shops I would recommend a exterior mount as it can make it a bit easier to get jumped off if your battery(s) die.

Im assuming you mean a second battery? Do you not carry a spare tire anymore?

not sure how much room you have, do you have a picture of the space?

An AGM battery would be best for inside since it wont off gas much and wont spill. maybe just drill 2 holes and use a standard battery mount? or if it fits
use a plastic battery box and bolt it down?

It's actually a 3rd battery. The spare is it to big, and is carried on the roof rack for now and soon to be on a swing out attached to the rear bumper. The battery will be used to power a invertor and one day a fridge.

Oh thats perfect. how wide is the space? measure it to find out how wide of a batt you can handle. I like your stock batt mount idea.

If your just running fridge and little inverter loads just run a 6 gauge to the back battery to keep it topped off.

RV and high performance shops have purpose-made battery boxes that will both secure and help protect a battery. And more importantly in an expo installation, help prevent loose items or tools from shorting out your battery terminals / connections.
