Introduction To The Land Rover Forum

I wanted to introduce myself to the Land Rover Forum. Someone told me about it last weekend, and I am impressed with all the good stuff here.

I have been in Land Rover withdrawal since returning to the USA, and I didn't know there was a Land Rover forum like this. It looks like a goldmine.

I was a member of the Riyadh Rover Register in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for more than ten years, and that's where I got my first Defender 110.

I will be lurking in the background mostly as I don't have a Defender here in the states.

Welcome to ExPo, Dave! :wavey:
Glad you dropped in!
Any plans for a replacement to the 110?

Ummm...I must respectfully disallow your lurking.

1. You have a 110
2. You have a 130
3. You lived in Saudi
4. You probably have stories to make us all jealous

Now, quit with the lurking and start with the pic posting.

Oh yeah, and welcome. :D

Most of my Arabian photos are in deep storage as I have been living on a boat until this past year.

I seriously considered a 110 here in the states, and I considered bringing a Defender in on a Carnet de Passage from Downunder, but it would involve a ton of hassle.

Ultimately, I got an older H1 for use while I am here in the states. It obviously isn't an expeditionary vehicle, but it keeps me from going crazy in the city. I can pretend that I'm driving on the plains of the Serrengeti as I commute to work in the morning. I have a low tolerance for civilization - I come back periodically to earn Freedom Chips. Hopefully, this period will not last long and my Land Rover adventures can get underway once again.

I love quotes like this...

Welcome Dave!

edit: I just noticed you are in Phoenix. When you are tired of the heat, come up to Prescott. The first beer is on me ;)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been up to Prescott once since arriving in Arizona.

This is beautiful country, but I haven't quite got it figured out as far as camping and expeditionary travel are concerned. Since Phoenix is our temporary basecamp, we haven't decided how much of a committment of time and money to make to this location. It wouldn't take much to get one of our trucks ready to go camping.

Once a week I fly in small aircraft up to WhiteRiver Apache Indian Reservation to see patients. All during the flight I'm looking down at Tonto Forest, Four Peaks, Supersitition Wilderness, San Carlos and Whiteriver Apache Reservations. It's all wild country and worth exploring, but I haven't figured out the best way to go about it.

I checked out your website, and your EarthRoamers look interesting. Hopefully, I will get up your way and can check out how you folks do things here in Arizona.

Thanks Michael,

I checked out your websites and enjoyed your photographic portfolios. I love to see top notch photographs because it inspires me to get out there and make some pictures of my own. I am a novice photographer, but I enjoy taking pictures anyway.

Welcome Dave to this fantastic forum.
Do you have the 130 in Oz ?
I am happy to drive it around for you to keep the spider web at bay :jump:
All the best in your hunting for a Landy
Cheers

welcome Dave!

you are in the right place. Expo is a great community tightly woven and far more sophisticated than any forum I've found.

Feel free to share your experiences, we'd love to read about them!
