That is a great picture of the salt flats. I recently read that the skid marks of a military bomber that made an emergency landing are still visable on the flats. During my next trip I am going to find a vantage point where it may be possible to see them.

On a previous trip we found a dehydrated half sunken burro out on the flats. It died in attempt to extricate itself from the sludge, it was a bizzar sight.

Electricity was provided by the Cottonwood Hydroelectric Power Station, the oldest DWP power station in service today. The first of two turbine generators there went “on line” November 13, 1908.

Because they did not have to dig/mine and heavily refine the already high grade salt...

Great pics. I was up there the 3rd weekend in March and made it almost to the Burgess Mine before getting stuck in knee deep snow. We had to dig out and turn back. I'm glad to see the pics of what we missed.
