Is 5/16 dia Amsteel Blue synthetic strong enough?

I've got ~4klbs rig (when loaded up) that I use for both desert trail runs and as well as rock crawling trails (Rubicon, Dusy, etc.)

I purchased a winch last year which I'm just now getting around to mounting (stuff happens right?). It's a Milemarker SE12000C winch (12k lb. limit).

With it, I purchased Amsteel Blue 5/16" dia winch line to replace the stock 3/8" dia. steel cable. It's rated at 13,700lb breaking strength. Didn't really do much homework here, simply asked the sales guy what would work.

After reading the winch line thread on here with the comments from the Masterpull folks I now have questions.. (of course).

Will this be strong enough? My guess is, yes but any insights would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I don't see why it wouldn't be. The normal suggestion when switching is 3-4 times your loaded vehicle weight.

And dont forget, 13,700 is the average. It's safer to have a margin of about 10%. This brings the safe working load to 12,300.

Thanks. I also found this page on Masterpull's site.

On a different note, their superline XD sure is a great idea but at nearly 2x the cost of the standard synth line, I think I'll just get 4 of their rock guard sleeves instead and save some $$$. I know it won't be as good but IMHO it will be good enough for my needs.

You should be fine with that Amsteelblue, before I worked for Master-Pull I ran 5/16ths AB on my 4800 lb Jeep for almost a year with no issues. It looks small when you start to winch on it the fibers pull together but it works. Keep an eye on it and don't rub it over too many rocks and it should work fine for a few years.
