Isuzu DPD Delete.

Hi Cam,

A fella in WA I know has been trying for along time to do this....thought he would get away with fitting a T and relocating the pressure senders on the T so they read equal pressures and did something else tricky with the temp probes....thought he had it nailed but the ECU must do a burn cycle at a pre determined time interval even if the pressure differential is indicating negligible particulate accumulation......in the end he gave up.

I believe the new MY13 models have improved cbus access so we have one coming soon and we'll be doing plenty of r and d to see what will be possible.

I have heard that some of the fire trucks have them deleted by the factory but maybe just one of those urban myths like DPDs on fire trucks starting bush fires when they do automatic burn cycles.

I only know of one guy who fitted a 450 computer and DPD to his 300 ...so got 185 hp .....he said it went great but maybe he should have gone for the 550 computer and DPD.......when I talk to the Isuzu tech heads, they reckon a 205 hp upgrade through the 300 drivetrain would be nuts.........that's "nuts" in a bad way.

Hey...welcome to the forum....good to have some Kiwis on board.

cheers.

Do the FSS run a different gearbox? I'd be interested to do some research on this.

You will always find guys disappointed in their power delivery......the power curve of the last model FG is very peaky by comparison and higher but the the super fat curve of the NPS means the power comes in much earlier and you don't change gears as much.....I prefer the current NPS even if the last FG feels better. ..... A chip is the easy upgrade on all of them but at your own risk if you are under warranty.

and as I said, he thought the regen was only when required but it must get to some point and eventually do it regardless. There must be a way to change the cbus programme ....that was what that guy was stumped on.

I was advised by Isuzu Aust. head office that the ECU factored in mileage as well when initiating a regen. My truck completes a regen every 310-312km for country driving, like clockwork - which fits with the advice from Isuzu.
Good luck with your 'testing' and keep us posted.

Speaking with the dealer, ecu swaps need immobiliser/key programming among other things so they're not as straightforward as a quick 'chuck it in and check'
yes....that would be the case but programming the new ECU to the key transponder is easy for a dealer with a small fee incurred.

Hi Cam,
Any updates on your DPD delete?

I'm currently in Cambodia travelling north to Laos and China with our Isuzu/ATW camper ..........with fingers crossed that the DPD will cope with a few thousand km's of high sulphur fuel.

Met a Swiss couple in Thailand travelling in a Bremach camper (Iveco Daily mechanicals) with Euro IV engine but DPF deleted. Original setup looked very similar to the Isuzu, with catalytic converter/ceramic filter/temp and pressure sensors etc. The DPF delete had been done in Austria; the catalytic converter had been retained as well as all sensors. They were supplied with what looked to be a small resistor to plug in to reset the ECU if needed.

They had travelled for 12mths from Europe to Thailand with some very poor fuel but without 'DPF' or ECU issues. Their lack of English and my lack of mechanical knowledge prevented further explanation but I will be emailing them for more info.

Cheers

I'm interested myself. Like the 'Borg' in Star Trek, emission systems are a interconnected collective of systems and parts, any attempt to modify just seems futile. Highway driving and high engine load will result in higher exhaust temperatures and lead to lower particulate matter accumulations in the DPD. Excessive idling, low speeds along with low engine load will create more PM.

Do you have a blog of your travels?
