Thanks, the more I drive it the more I love it.

Stopped by the dealer we got it from and explained to the manager what was going on with the 4 lo and he said just to bring it by when I can and they will take to Toyota dealer to have it fixed :)

Dropped the 4Runner off at the dealership I bought it from. The dealer is a GMC dealership and they said that not only did they know the 4lo was flashing and beeping they took it to the local Toyota dealer and they said that was normal. So they just decided to sell it and said it worked. Now I am bringing it back to them because it is flashing and beeping at me. At least they are being very cool with the whole deal and they are going to take it back to Toyota to get it fixed.

Quick question (I am assuming I know the answer) Does the 4lo beep all the while it is engaged?

It beeps to indicate that 4-lo cannot engage properly. For some reason mine has failed on me now. Started beeping when I tried 4-lo a few weeks back. Not ready to spend the $ to repair it yet though.

No it shouldnt beep when going to 4LOW. It will beep if there is a problem or if you are engaging it wrong.

For example. Engaging 4LOW in drive it will beep. You should be in neutral while selecting 4LOW.

Thanks for the response. That was my assumption. Thats what I relayed to the dealer. Kinda weird that Toyota of Orange said that was normal. Oh well, cant wait to have it working. Got a few potential trips planned in November.

Let us know what toyota does to fix it. My guess they will replace the t case actuator.

Actuator! No surprise there. But the dealer is waiting for the extended warranty to kick in to get repairs approved. Hope to hear about that today.

Gotta love the ol stealerships. Toyota is trying to charge 3k+ to fix it and the extended warranty company said no. So now they are sending someone out to Toyota dealer to see exactly what is going to be replaced/repaired. I really dont care what they charge, I'm gonna be going on a week with out the 4Runner. Was hoping to go camping next weekend for our 1st wedding anniversary. Hope tomorrow brings better news.

Oh wow. Hope they approve the bill.

It shouldnt cost more than $2k to fix. The actuator itself costs $800. The t-case has to be split open to properly replace the actuator. So i will give the dealer a generous $1000 for labor. So should cost no more than $2k.

Call a few dealers and ask them how much to replace the actuator. It should be in their service books and they should give you a quote easily. You can show the insurance company your quotes and go to thr chepeast dealer if the insurance is giving a hard time to pay.

Who in paying for the repair? The non Toyota dealer that you purchased your 4runner from?

Today I should know 100% that the repairs will be approved. I got into a little argument yesterday with the dealership I bought from because they are saying once repairs are approved it will be another week! And now I am getting the whole story, they sold me a vehicle that they actually knew there was a problem with the 4lo. They somehow get some reassurance from local Toyota dealer saying the flashy, beepy light is normal. Now they recognized there is a problem and is willing to take care of it, BUT they are running it through the extended warranty WE bought. My point is if they weren't so greedy they would have fixed it before it was put up for sale. Now they have had it for over a week, the Toyota dealer wants $3300!!!! to fix it, so the extended warranty company sends out a rep to the Toyota dealer to take pictures....etc..now this is getting out of hand. So I will know today if repairs are approved. Then they are saying the only actuator available is in Kansas and its going to take 3-4 days to get it to CA. I asked if they could overnight it if repairs were approved and they said the warranty wont cover that!!! Rad, they wont spend $60 to keep a customer happy. All this because its easier (cheaper) for the dealer to do repairs through a warranty that they have sold to someone.

OK enough rable rable rable. Rant over. Now I wait.....again.

Wow what a saga!

But I really think the Toyota dealer is trying to take your insurance company for a ride. $3300 bill is ridiculous. But the dealer knows insurance is paying so they are going to try to milk every penny.

I just looked and you can buy an entire new T-Case for less than $2600 BRAND NEW.

I just double checked and the actuator costs $844.

So I do not blame the insurance company at all to come over and see what the heck is going on.

Also, I do not find it right for your dealer where you purchased from to go through your 3rd party insurance company. I would simply deny them to do so since you purchased the vehicle broken and they acknowledged it. Very shady dealer.

What dealer did you purchase it from?

Have they approved payment?

On the bright side you will have a new actuator and be worried free.
