It definitely wouldn't be a show stopper for me. But you might need to be mindful about stuff like ignition or injection parts- they may not match on all accounts.
mapper, that's my understanding, too. Japan has strict emissions policies and an expensive vehicle inspection system. This causes the Japanese owner to replace their engine after 50k-60k miles. That makes for (relatively) cheap secondhand motors available to importers. The engine in the Montero I am interested let go so the current owner replaced it with a JDM engine.out of curiosity...what is the difference/reason a person would have a JDM motor. I have read that Japan has some funky requirement that leads to low mileage motors being retired early. Is that true and is that the main reason a person might have one installed as replacement?
Forgive my ignorance if this is/seems an absurd question. The Montero is the first Japanese car I've owned.
Buy this one... Already has the JDM motor plus lots of upgrades. Awesome price too...

Does look and sound awesome. Am curious why he recently dropped $3,000 and is selling it now.
I agree. I also have room in my garage for it. The owner and I have agreed on a price and it looks like I'll be picking it up in a couple of weeks. It's a nice, extremely clean rig. My friend Joe "Journey Off Road" built the roof rack. Incredible buy for what you get. I'd buy it if there was space to park it.
