Jeep heads back to the battlefield?

Autoblog is reporting that Hendrick Dynamics has prepped a JK Jeep with a diesel engine and has proposed it to the Government for a more light-weight vehicle for the battlefield.

My thought after leaving the battlefield a few years ago...it's no HUMVEE but I do believe it has a great place in the military. Would I want to roll it through some of our biggest battles, hell no. Would I want to use it for about 95% of the other time, or less-intense purposes, hell yes.

Love it. Mobility is survival. I think there is the need for a rig like this that is more agile than a hummer. Semper Fi Frank.

I joined up during the first gulf war, it was long over by the time I got to MCRD. But my MOS was motor transport and I got to hang out with some pretty cool guys. They said they much preferred the old M151 for recon in Kuwait due to its size and weight. It fit in more helicopters, fit in town streets better, and had a lower profile. Seems like combat vehicles keep getting heavier and bigger.
