Jeep "JT" truck and J8 "Sarge"

I got to drive both the "JT" and the J8 Egyptian truck on a trail run with the Chrysler reps this morning. Tim Piele, Editor in Chief of CRAWL Magazine, drove my Cherokee hauling their camera gear and we got some really cool pics.

The Chrysler Guys were awesome, even when I picked a retarded line (intentionally) and lifted the front tire of the prototype JT up about a foot to make a **************' magazine picture. Definitely one of the coolest wheeling experiences I've ever had.

Look for a full article and lots of pics in the upcoming JPFreek issue!

I would "stimulate the Economy" with a new Jeep if they would just offer the vehicle's already in production to everybody........

I thought Edsel and GM were the only ones that "knew what the customer wanted"....

I read somewhere last year on the jk-forums that they were one-offs. Not sure how true that was. I think those wheels should be in production!

Those are just plain cool... Why Oh why couldn't Toyota make a Land cruiser like this oh please... Regardless, these are the coolest jeeps I've seen in a long time (except for maybe the Rescue ;) ), I was really interested in that JT when I saw the first spy shots in Petersens. You're a lucky man to actualy get to drive these mules eh ;)

i would actually be interested in a new 4wheel drive if they brought these out there are no such thing as small work trucks or plain out offroad vehicles that havent been half assed to appeal to soccer moms or someone who dont know a thing about the vehicle and just think wow im adventurous and cool i drive a so and so. the only company to do it were probably hummer and in the end they half assed it with their price cut tahoe chassis

I like how despite some cosmetic changes over the last 60+ years, you can still tell a Wrangler/CJ "jeep" form a mile away... Talk about staying true to your roots. They truly are iconic vehicles to say the least.

I'd argue that the previous Gen LJ Rubi was as close to the perfect trail rig from the factory as you can get. It's just the curse of the N.American Overlander: We just don't get the dream rigs that the rest of the world does...

I completely agree though on the simple "work truck" platform. Unfortunately alot of American "workers" think that they need GIANT trucks even though the rest of the world does the same work with a vehicle half the size. I don't even think you can get a "stripper" model truck from anoyone any more let alone:

-Cloth seats
-Power NOTHING
-Diesel powerplant
-5/6sp manual
-Lockers/or at least A locker
-Mechanical lever actuated T-case
-good view out with square corners that make knowing where your vehicle ends easy
-Vinyl flooring or at least removable carpeting
-Electronics (what little it should have) located as high up/water avoiding as possible
-heavy duty axles of the twin solid variety

Oh wait, that's just a 70 Series or a 110 ;)

Cool deal. Jeep designers, like other mfr designers, come up with some interesting stuff for the end users. To bad many of many vehicles are just that - ideas.

I like the top design on that green JT. Bet both tops are removable. Think the cab top could be located on top or underneath of the back half for storage when not in use? What's that bubble off the hood on the passenger side?

I can't agree more. You do realize just how much flake that Jeep has taken for being to same ol jeep. Keeping a vehicle true to it's beginning has been a difficult road - no doubt. Chrysler took alot of flake but endured when in 97 they updated the YJ to the TJ. Less then AMC did with the YJ from the CJ fans.
I for one, would love to see a LJ size pick-up aka Brute, be made available with the 3.0L CDI/6-speed with Rubicon running gear w/options for D60 rear axle. I have no doubt that warranty issues and profit per copy sold is the real culprit. I do wish the CEO were a member of this website. Perhaps we could sway opinions and influence decisions. :coffee:

The thing I find kinda odd about the "factory snorkle" is that it seems to be in litteraly the WORST possible place for a snorkle... The bow wave could easily intrude, and dipping the nose into any sort of water would cause the same sort of problems. Seriously, there's about a 4in difference between that and the intake behind the headlight of my 4Runner...

I could have spent countless hours shooting (and driving) both the JT and the J8. There isn't a bad angle on the trucks, nor a better backdrop than Moab. It was impossible not to have your breath taken away:
