Jeep Rubicon and a VW Westfalia Full Camper

Hey folks. Been luring for a while and I finally got myself an off road vehicle. I started off with the VW Westfalia Full Camper (Not a Syncro) and I was envious of those who could off road. I just picked up a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited. The plan is to slowly convert into what my Westfalia currently provides me. Look forward to the build.

Happy Holidays everyone

Congrats on the Rubi! I just picked up a 2010 Sport Unlimited and I love it. I'm at the same point as you trying to research and carefully plan my upgrades for the jeeps intended purpose. I will be watching this thread with great interest.

Congrats on the Rubi! I will be watching your build with interest and probably stealing all of your brilliant ideas for my jeep build. :)

Didn't someone use to make a 4x4 conversion for the old Westfalia's? It seems mechanically impossible just because of how the transaxle works and stuff but I could swear I'd seen pictures of one cruising around on some sand dunes somewhere.

In south america there is a VW van that looks like a vanagon but has a system like the syncro used in the VW cars.I can't remember the name of it but it is alomst identical to the 80's model vanagons and westys.

The Jeep is already 60% built. I researched a Jeep for over 2 years and a neighbor has 3 of them and helped me learn a lot. I did a virtual "Jeep Build" with all "Must Haves" and "Nice to Haves" with all of the current prices. When I started looking seriously I already knew most of the things I was looking for. I came across a stock Rubicon Unlimited in Edmonton, AB and that started it. I mentioned to a local guy I was looking and he told me he had just bought and built a 09 Rubi Unlimted and wanted to go back to a 2 Dr Rubi. We talked $ and came up with a price that was fair to both.

So I bought the local one and saved myself the shipping and a lot of time building it up (Did not want to spend the next 6 months building). So here is what it has

- 2009 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited (Loaded): :wings:
- 3.8L
- Automatic
- Dana 44
- 4:10
- Front and rear Electric Lockers
- Electric Sway Bar Disconnect
- A/C
- AM/FM/SAT/CD/MPE/DVD/30GB HD/GPS Nav
- Hard and Soft Top
- 4 inch Skyjacker Lift Kit:Wow1:
- 35" Tires with a full spare :smiley_drive:
- Bushwacker Fender Flares
- Rock Body Guards
- Front Bumper with Stinger (Can't remember the make)
- Rear Warn Bumper
- Warn Swing Away Tire Rack
- PIAA Driving Lights (4) :coffee:
- Rear Back Up / Working Lights
- Warn 8000lbs Winch with Plasma Rope:drool:
- CB
- Tuff Tool Box
- Mud Mats :snorkel:
- Class 2 Hitch :ylsmoke:
- K&N Cold Air Intake
- Super Chip

I need to pick up a Recovery tool kit and a bunch of other stuff. I don't have a good photo yet and when I figure out how to post a picture.

Took it out on a short run on Boxing Day and the Jeep did not even struggle.

Future Plans
- Maybe a Adventure Trailer JK Habitat Top or Tent Top
- Storage Boxes
- Water
- Solar Power
- etc etc etc.
