Jeep seats

So I have a 2003 Rubicon and for the most part I really like the Jeep. My biggest complaint is that the stock seats are uncomfortable for long drives. They are ok for the 45 minute drive to work, but anything longer gets a little uncomfortable...

Have any of you swapped out your front seats? I don't mind spending the money if it'll make longer drives more comfortable.

What seats have you tried and what manufactures do you recommend? (Or any to avoid.)

Thanks,

Nick

I put in Mastercraft Baja RS reclining seats in my 2003 Jeep Rubi. Longer drives and off road trips are much more comfortable. The fixed headrest is my only complaint, not tall enough.

I know a few guys who have swapped in the power seats from the ZJ and WJ with great results, but I guess it's a matter of how handy you are with tools.

I'm fairly handy. I've done 99% of the work on the Jeep myself. (I had to get the front spindles machined a little to make room for the RCV axle shafts.) Other than that, it's all me...

I started building the Jeep as a trial toy while keeping it street friendly. Living in Illinois, most of the trails are boring, so next summer I would like to drive out west. The Jeep just needs to be more comfortable before I will consider driving it that far...

This is what I'm working with. The 35s look a little big, but the Jeep is well behaved most of the time... :smiley_drive:

This pic is a year old, but other than a new rear bumper w/ tire carrier it looks the same...

Well, if you want to install some power seats it's simply a matter of measuring and possibly making brackets, then running a power source to them. I have a buddy who runs ZJ power seats in his Scrambler and loves them, especially with the adjustable height adjustment that helps you see over the nose.

Be creative...

I found some nice leather and heated seats on the internet and put them in my Scrambler. They came from an '02 (I think that's the year) Nissan pathfinder and are pretty comfy! Haven't gotten around to wiring in the heaters yet but that is a different story. Plus I only paid about 350 bucks for the seats, delivered. And while they came with the matching back leather seats I couldn't make them work and had to toss them :(

I have back problems, and find most stock seats uncomfortable over long trips.

I put EMPI suspension buckets in my XJ, and ARP suspension seats in my CJ.

Both sets were on the low end of the price scale (I believe ARP is out of biz now)

Made a world of difference! I have driven both Jeeps to Moab from MN- Making the 1500 mile trip in 2 days- 2 1/2 days.

I've sat in some Master Craft seats, and they are nice- thinking of going that route with my TJ.

what year miata? my step mom has a 90 or 91 cant remember, they are supportive, but its like sitting in a race car...not much padding. my XJ seats are friggen comfy, I like them a lot better than the '11 JK seats, the JK's seem a bit stiff to me, I don't weigh much, 6 foot 125lbs, so I am kinda a twig with no natural padding and if the seats aren't kinda plush it's like sitting on a hard wood seat...

Corbeau seats are super comfortable and reasonably priced. I have the LG1's in my XJ and I love em. Some buddies are running the Baja suspension seats and they compare favorably to the Mastercrafts for a lot less green. Still USA made!

I have the Mastercraft RS Baja seats in my Jeep TJ. I am very pleased with the Seats. The OEM seats always made my back feel like someone beat me with a stick, after a day of wheeling. The Mastercraft hold you in and by not bouncing you around, you feel as good as new at the end of the day.

Now the down side from my experience with Mastercraft. The lead time for the seats was almost double what Mastercraft claimed. I had time to wait, so no biggie. The other problem was that Mastercraft ships their seats in a single thin cardboard box without any protection except a plastic bag. UPS did a Job the the Frame and bent it all up. Mastercraft did not seem to care and did ship another, but I had the same lead time as the first time. Seems like they would have been more caring about making it right, especially for the price you pay. The second seat arrived and the cover was damaged on this one. Again, Mastercraft did not care. The damages could have been avoided if Mastercraft would package and ship their seats better.

As it turned out, the same Mastercraft Sales Representative (not vendor) was at the SEMA 2009 show as told me the short lead time on the original order. I wore this guy out and told him what I thought about Mastercraft's customer service and shipping. He did not seem to care.

Don't get me wrong, I love the seats, but just be prepared to go through a little trouble getting a set.

After my life flight accident I went with Mastercraft Baja RS. It is true that they dont protect them very well on shipment. One of mine arrived with a shoulder loop torn. That said though they replaced it in less than a week. Then I found out that they didnt come with a tumbler mechanism. According to them only the drivers seat that tumbles os a Rubi. They overnighted that to me. If I did it again I would get the heater and the water bladder. Although they are high priced in my 34 years of driving Ive never had a more comfortable seat
