I'm having a shop put a set of Rokmen's Mercenary "body-mount" style sliders on my LJ.
I HAVE to have a shop do it, cuz they're doing the body work associated with my accident earlier this year, and the check from the insurance co. is made out to them...lol. no worries. i figure the damage will be repaired and the sliders will be installed professionally, which will give me and my wife peace of mind when we go offroading.
So anyways, I started prepping my rig for them tonight. they are full length body mounted sliders, and as such require you to remove any trim pieces or side steps that might be there.
for me that meant: fenderlets and the stick on diamond plate trim, since my
side steps went to the landfill long ago.
here goes:
1.Remove front fender flare-let's(next to bottom of front flares. -these were held on with three screws and came off in like 5min's
2. Remove purely decorative faux, black "diamond plate" metal "sticker" from rocker panels. -I used a flat crowbar, and a screw driver, leapfrogging to slowly spread the panel off the side of the car. I then had to peel the rubbery/adhesive strips off the side of the car...took about 20mins.
3. RE-finish my fender flares. -I've been wanting to paint my fender flares for some time, and did so, tonight. I took some Krylon "fusion" satin paint, masked carefully and basically rattlecan'ed them carefully. CAME OUT GREAT!!
heres some before pic's....
and here's some after the "flare-let" removal, "trim" removal and F/R flare re-finish.
thats all i got done tonight, before my kids woke up from their nap and demanded that we go hot-tubbing...lol.
my sliders are supposed to be in tomorrow or monday, so I'll post up pics ASAP of as much of the process as i can...
regards,
Brian
