Jet Boil Performance

Hello all,

The wife gifted me a Jet Boil last year for Christmas. It is the first stove I've owned that does not use liquid fuel; my usual go-to is an old Svea 123. I wanted the Jet Boil to keep in the Jeep for emergencies and coffee makin' after a long day tromping through the snow and cold water. It was my impression that the main benefit of the Jet Boil system, besides the compact size, was it's ability to boil water rapidly. My unit takes about 10mins for 2 cups to come to boil. In my experiences with liquid fuel stoves that seems a little slow. Is 10mins about the norm for 2 cups at sea level with no wind using compressed iso-butane? If not, has anyone else experienced long boil times? Any tips that I may not know about yet since it's still fairly new? Thanks in advance...

turn it up.

Ha! Is that all it takes?

I spoke with Jet Boil and there is a procedure you can do to increase the amount of gas getting to the burner by removing half of the cotton packing in the valve. I did that with a little improvement, but the sheet metal tabs that secure the burner head to the valve sheared off when reassembling. So it's off to Jet Boil for their techs to repair at no charge to me other than the cost of shipping to get it there. Hopefully they can make it work like it should. If not, I'll be selling it off for parts and picking up a $6 burner off Amazon that fits on the same tanks. I'll let you know how it all shakes out in the end...

Yep, you had a bad unit...even at 7,000 feet it's only 3 min or so. Best purchase I made for offroad trips. I keep it in a quick grab bag with gas, cups, coffee, tea and water.

Received the repaired unit back from Jet Boil on Monday afternoon. Amazing turnaround time as it only took 11 days portal-to-portal; Alaska to New York and back!! Super customer service department and this thing now runs like a gutshot ape. Just in time as I leave Monday AM for a 4 month hitch at a boat-in remote salmon research camp.

Well...I was going to ask how cold it was when you used it. They suck in REAL cold temps. The other thing that really seems to slow them down is filling above the "fill line". Other than those issues...love my JB for heating water.

Anyway, glad yours is fixed!
