JK 12+ Battery Terminal Replacement

Hi All,

I've had an issue over the past few weeks where my battery terminals have worked themselves loose and I'll have to pop the hood and wiggle the cables to get the Jeep to start, it's really annoying. I've tightened the terminals down, tried making the terminal hole smaller to fit better on the battery post and nothing seems to improve the situation.

I was hoping I could buy some marine terminals or Military style terminals and replace them on the cables, any idea if the stock terminals (just the part that clamps to the battery, would like to keep the multiple smaller wire connections that are on the cables just before the insulated cables). I've tried finding info online but I'm coming up short.

Thanks for any input!

If I remember correctly one of the positive cables is crimped with a mounting stud, so not sure how easy it is just to replace the terminal itself.
For under $2, you can get "shims". They look like lead thimbles, and are placed over the posts.
They are available at any autoparts store, in the battery section.

Use a socket slightly larger than the posts as a drift to seat the battery terminals securely but gently on the posts using a rubber mallet.

Then attach these for your extra wiring.

Thanks for the tip, it hasn't been loose enough to fall off, but just not get a secure connection. I posted on another Jeep forum and was told the studs closest to the terminals should only be used to clamp down the terminal. I had my winch connected to them as well and it looks like that was enough to cause the looseness of the terminals.

I thought about trying these, but moving the winch cables seems to have done the trick.

This. Had to replace my battery at the parts store this week, got home and it wouldn't start. A little tap with a socket and rubber mallet got it seated and secure.
