JK making hemi noises

Those look like the AEV 6.1/5.7 conversions that were running around all week. If you've got $75,000 to burn, that's a great way to go.

From what I gathered talking to the AEV folks, the MPG actually goes up with the bigger motor (the 5.7, which retains their cylinder deactivaction system) because it doesn't have to work nearly as hard to move the same mass. That becomes all that much more important when you start talking about 35"-37" tires, big axles, etc. There's only so much you can do with gears and a mini-van motor....

yep, I have not seen that many Hemi JK's and TJ's in one place before.

There were also a couple of 6.4 hemi's in town (525hp) and about 7 brute conversions. There was a silver TJ brute mostly stock spec for sale at $40k.

There was also a diesel Power wagon going around running 40+'s.

Some info that was posted in the Hemi thread on the AEV forum:

  • Orders are being taken, deliveries are beginning in April.
  • Pricing is as follows for all new components:

    5.7MDS Turnkey - $17,999
    6.1 Turnkey - $24,499
  • Dave Harriton (AEV) says "Put it this way, up until we put a 5.7 in mine, It had about 2800 miles on it....2000 of those were the miles put on it when it was stock from Detroit to Montana. I hated to drive it with the 3.8. Now, I love it and it has about 6K on it. No hunting for gears, about 17 or so mpg on the highway (37" swampers) and its fun to drive. We just pulled the 5.7 out of mine and are putting the 6.1 in it for kicks, but if it were my everyday car, I would stick to the 5.7."
