JK Real World MPG

Between 16 and 18 usually, although on my recent trip back from Reno I got 20 mpg on the button. Of course that's mostly down hill  No lift, 33's.

I'm getting between 14 and 16 mpg usually. I have a 4" lift and 35's and drive 25 miles each way to work. Only 5 of that is interstate and it's usually backed up so it's more like city driving anyway. It's a pretty miserable lack of efficiency, a little worse than I expected but I knew what I was getting when I bought the Jeep. I'm going to add exhaust and CAI to help a little maybe but I'll just have to live with it for the most part.

Everybody thank you for the input it is very helpful.
Seems about on par with the old I-6.

I was thinking the same thing ..That is what my LJ gets and my ZR-2 Blazer and most 4000lb 6cyl vehicles with poor aerodynamics it seems..

Gas-mileage

I have a 03' Rubicon TJ, soft top. I get 14.5 mpg on the highway @ 75mph. In town I average 13.8. I run a 4" lift and 33x12.50 MT. Add a big front bumper with a winch and a rear bumper w/tire carrier, and a 6-point roll-cage and I'm get close to 4000lbs. I also run a Kenne Bell Supercharger that sucks another mile or two OFF my gas-mileage. Even prior to installing the blower I only got 15-15.5 mpg. 17.5 was my best ever.
As the man said...these aren't aerodynamically friends vehicles. I try to drive around 65mph as a norm just to take some of the bite out of sponge under the hood. Especially into the wind.
Pulling my 1250lbs trailer that has a fairly high profile, really costs gas-mileage. 10-12mpg on the highway. 8-10 if you want to run 75-80mpg. I try to keep the water and gas cans empty to the last minute before losing the black top for the back-country.
All in all Jeeps are just thirsty. The wind-drag cooeficiency rating has to be that of a brick! This is the price we pay for a go anywhere vehicle. I don't yet want to surrender my front foldable windshield. I suppose I should consider a small compact car for doing anything other then 4x4 driving. But that's tax license and insurance on another vehicle. In the big picture not cost effective for someone who drive < 12,000 miles per year.
I have no doubt everyother Wrangler owner feels the same-especially after they have lifted and added larger tires to the profile.

Not to be a smart ****** but you might want to go get your TJ weighed. I think you will be VERY surprised to find you are closer 5000-5500lbs. My Cherokee, which is about a 1000lbs lighter then a TJ comes in at 3700lbs stock. My buddy documented the weight of a buddies TJ and his XJ and both were surprised by the weight difference. Having the body on frame versus a unibody and Wranglers being physically bigger adds up to a LOT of extra weight and that's before putting any aftermarket parts/tires/etc. on.

Just my .02 worth.

I have a LJ with a 4" lift and 33" tires, I have an aftermarket tireswing and a Body Armor front bumper with a winch. I have a whole lot of underneath protection as well as a full cage. My vehicle weighed in at 4400 which includes a hardtop which I can attest to being heavy. My MPG plain does not exist, I keep my foot out of the throttle and I am mostly city driving. I also pull a fully loaded Chaser and the mileage goes down a lot more. Usually I will get between 13-14 around town and maybe 11 loaded with the Chaser if I am careful and don't have a lot of steep grades.. I have recently cut off custom made rock rails and I think I am doing a bit better but I am almost afraid to check and as has been said it's like driving a brick.
