JKU - so many doors

dzzz

I want to trade my mustang convertible for a jeep and retire my Expedition from offroad duty.

Is there anyway to make the Unlimited.......look good? It's the right size, and when they announced it I thought "perfect". But it doesn't look right to me. I guess I would like it as a wagon (removing two doors).

There are so many jeep mods. Any pics of an unlimited with custom sides?

the pre 07 unlimiteds had two doors and longer body.

I think you should stick to the mustang and your SUV, they already look good.

Once you put a 2.5 or 3 inch lift on a 4 door JK, with some 34-35" tires, they look much more balanced and alot heavier....not so strange.

Yeah the price tag on these is RIDICULOUS! $50,000....and thats empty with no motor or transmission.....flat two coat paint and steel snow rims....pretty cheap build out for what you're paying.

Anyone know how to get one of those J8 badges though?

I wish Jeep would offer a "3 top" option for the Unlimited so you could have a pick-up cab as well.

The roll bar makes it difficult for a pick-up cab though.

The problem with the JK is the huge wheelbase and lack of overhang. With the wheels so close to the corners, it doesn't look like an offroader should IMO. You get the sense that it has terrible breakover angle, like a limo.

Having driven the Rubicon Unlimited JK since late 2006, the only thing you NEED is a 2.5" lift.

Those breakover worries are long gone with a small lift and slightly larger tires.

In that configuration the Rubicon model JK Unlimited is not Limo like at all, its very balanced and perfect for expedition wheeling.

Maybe just stick to an 04-06 Unlimited. Only two doors, smaller than the JK, but still larger than a regular TJ. And you could still get the 4.0 instead of the minivan motor:jump:

for that price you might as well buy a diesel in europe, import it and weld the rear doors shut :)))

That "minivan" motor, is more than an acceptable motor in the JK. Its got plenty of power, especially if you do a gear job from the Rubicon 4.10's to 5.13's, then you're really good to go.

I have driven every Jeep out there is testing runs, and as far as "Jeeps" go, the JK is the superior choice, and most notably the RUBICON Unlimited, when it comes to expedition types of uses.

The motor is slightly smaller, but it loses nothing as far as heart goes, the frame is stronger and lighter than any other Wrangler predecessor (as reported by Jeep themselves) and the out of the box capability of the Rubicon models is far superior with the e-lockers and e-swaybar disco (fantastic idea, and works amazingly)

Its a fantastically designed vehicle and will serve well in an Expedition and offhighway travel capacity in stock form. Modifications will only enhance that.

I find there is alot more driver room in the JK models than the TJ and especially YJ. I always felt really squished in and cramped in the TJ model, even more so in the YJ models (no elbow room, and my knees always hit the dashboard). In the JK I have tons of room for my legs and elbows.....I'm a 6'4" 250 LB guy.

Anyway, your choice is personal.
