Jurassic Park Mobile Lab RV

Ever since I was a kid I've found certain features of Jurassic Park very interesting, one of which is the mobile lab RV.

If you've seen similar real-world builds, even if on a smaller platform, but of similar style, I'd be very interested in seeing them.

"The mobile lab used by the research team in The Lost World: Jurassic Park was a modified ’96-’97 Fleetwood Southwind Storm recreational vehicle, or RV. The living spaces of the vehicle were mostly removed in order to add additional equipment, and the exterior was further modified with additional lights and structural reinforcement to most of the windows. It was also given a camouflage coloration.

The rear of the trailers was fitted with an array of equipment, including many electronics, for research, among them communications equipment, microscopes, and an ultrasound machine. Though it is not seen very well, the living quarters would have been located in the front of the trailer."

Jurassic park was great. The book was better than the movie, but I liked both for different reasons.

It's strange to see that rig rotting away... not in a "neglected-expo-vehicle" way, but more in a "once-famous, now-forgotten-and-neglected" kind of way. Like seeing the shark from Jaws rusting away, or Harry Potter washed-up and drunk, I'd guess.

"Harry Potter washed-up and drunk"

he admits to being drunk on set ! so thats a possibility I guess !

Good movies and fun vehicles- I'm just waiting to see a real mad doc somewhere actually doing it

We have enoughstill wet mammoths that should be easy !

the tar pits in CA should still have some soggy carcases with a drop or two of DNA !

Man, I'd get that rig stuck in no time! No clearance, horrible arrival/departure angle, prob two wheel drive, . . .

Does anyone know what the flexible coupler that connects the trailers is called? I've searched and haven't been able to find more trailers setup like this. I've seen it before on city buses and between cabs and trailers on unimogs. It can be seen at 14 seconds in the above video.

uhhh it's a movie.. doubt they build that bus' interior up the way you saw it in the movie. It's much easier to re-create the interior of the RV in a sound stage.

All the "pretty" exterior bits I'm sure do not even stand up to expo's level of expedition usage.

Did somebody say Jurassic Park!?!

I would say that JP was one of the main reasons I got into expedition related travel in the first place :snorkel: I guess the kid inside me is alive and well.
All the vehicles inspired me when I was young, sad to see them rotting away..
