Just for Gadget Geeks Like Me

Hi all. I've posted a couple of .pdf's that lists all sorts of gadgets I use for camping, exploring, and (hopefully never) survival.

If you're anything like me, half the fun of this stuff is the collection and occasional use. My buddies have told me they think there is an intervention in order.

My wife just rolls her eyes anytime she sees Brown dropping something off at the house.

Ha! You guys kill me:shakin:

:oops:I have it in there as a reminder to put $.50 in a pocket of the vest or something. Guess I oughta get off my butt and take care of it so I don't get embarrassed again!

The cheapest thing on the list, but hey, I won't turn down $.50 if ya want to send it to me :xxrotflma

Curious: Why the ACR Microfix instead of the cheaper, and more feature-rich SPOT?

Great list, by the way.

Actually I like the feature sets in the SPOT. But, I have read some poor or mediocre reviews on the product that made me wait. Such as:
http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2008/01/spot_satellite_messenger_perso.php?page=1

The ACR product is a proven system that has stabilized over the last few years. They've made the units smaller and they remain VERY reliable.

I will keep an eye on SPOT as they improve the product over the next few years. My wife has a "survival" vest with all the gadgets as well. Maybe a good oppotunity to get one of each.

I guess Doug Ritter at equipped.org sums it up the best:

Close durango...I do have a degree in electronics and another in Computer Information Systems, but I work with MANY engineers.

I used to be a Factory Manager for an electronics firm and I am a Lean Expert now for a heavy equipment manufacturer. :D

Wow...a month passes and I didn't buy anything to add to the lists...maybe I can avoid the need for an intervention after all! Of course the money was spent on travel and leisure instead! The long winter months can be expensive in Idaho! Boredom passed by buying items from Quadratec, 4WD parts, REI, Bass Pro Shops, and the like!

Hmmm. Maybe I can tempt you. I'm in the process of consolidating all of my gear and know I have duplicates and even some triplicates of many "essentials" and "just have to haves." That's the problem with having a tow rig with camper always loaded and ready to go, a trailer set up as a field kitchen always loaded and ready to go, the stuff that used to be packed in my CJ ready to go (before I bought the tow rig and trailer), gear for motorcycle camping, and gear for backpacking. The reason for this project is that I'm selling my tow rig and don't have the space to store all of my gear.

I didn't buy this stuff all at once, it is a collection of gear acquired over the last 40 years, all in perfect or nearly perfect condition. I'll post a list when I've divided my gear into the pile I'm keeping and the pile I'm letting go. Maybe you'll be so bored during the Idaho winter that I can persuade you to take some of it off my hands. ;)
