Just picked up a 4Th Gen 4Runner...feel like I may have made a mistake.

For future rust prevention and also to aid in future disassembly, you may want to look into coating everything with Boeshield. It comes highly recommended from a good friend and I intend on using it underneath any vehicle I have that will see salt. It has the side benefit of acting as a penetrating lubricant as well, so it may be helpful down the road when you need to take something else apart.

Thanks, I give everything a coat of anti-seize when I put it back together. For the frame I'll clean up the rust, paint it with good old rustoleum and then I use "Fluid Film" and coat the entire frame on all of my vehicles twice a year. The main heavy coat being right before Winter.

I should be starting my build early next week...I'll let you know how much difficulty I have. I hope it's not a general vehicle problem, but more a function of where the vehicle spent it's life.

Yup, exactly. I bought mine with 275xxx miles last year and it's a NM rig with zero rust. I can only imagine how much rust a Michigan rig must have!!

Oddly enough, vehicles from Ohio and New York seem to always be worse. Not sure if its the type of salt or what. BUT, I'll grab a pic of the front skidplate I just pulled off this thing. YIKES!

Denver rides suffer a similar fate, maybe not as bad as the rust belt. I moved to NM from Chicago and every time I drove my vehicles on the salty roads back there, I couldn't wait to wash the undercarriage. I hate to think what my winter time car wash bill was!!

Funny enough I actually lived in Albuquerque for a couple years. In the N.E......up by the Tram.
