In the search for new front and rear bumpers for my 2001 Tahoe build I cam across Kennesaw Mountain ACC.

I did some research on this company and found a lot of negative comments on their products. I also came across many good comments as well. I wanted to check and see who had experience with this company and their products?

Are they built with quality and do they fit right? Another issue I have found with them is fitment issues.

Any opinions on this company?

I have a rear multi-carrier bumper from KMA.

It seems to me that their main goal is to build beefy equipment. They don't pre-drill the mounting holes for you, but that wasn't a big deal for me, I know how to measure and work a drill. The fitment of the bumper is dictated by the mounting holes, so there you go.

The welds aren't pretty, but there's a lot of material there...they are plenty strong. Also, I had to take a baby sledge to the mounting tabs for the Hi-Lift, as they did not line up right. A couple of hours of work and it was tweaked to fit just right on my truck. Later on, I replaced the bumper brackets w/ home made ones to compensate for a 2" body lift and ended up using thicker plate than the original material...just because.

It's been installed for 2 years now and I have no complaints. The fuel can tray has loops where you use a ratchet strap or bungee to keep the fuel can in place and the spare tire mount on the swing-gate has a strange angle to it. However, both the tray and tire mount are plenty sturdy enough.

I believe that 'Articulate' (user on this forum) is in the process of modifying the same bumper w/ a better latching mechanism, fixing the leaning spare tire mount and adding an AC fuel can holder onto the OEM tray, which was minimalist at best.

If you just want to buy a bumper and bolt it on right away, don't buy a KMA. If you're willing to put up w/ the hassles to trade for the 'beef', it is a very strong bumper.

Good luck w/ whatever you choose.

lost, but making time
Don't know if you want to hear this, but I ordered one of their rear bumpers with a swing-away, paid the deposit, sent emails asking for updates, waited more than a year and finally was able to reach them, asking what was the hold up... Seems that they had ordered the materials, but never got around to making my rear bumper. As it was more than a year, they no longer kept the records (?)... They offered me the choice of them making the bumper, finally, or returning my deposit. I got back to them in a couple of days, saying that as the situation had changed, please return my deposit. They agreed, but unfortunately never got around to returning the money. I phoned weekly asking them if they had sent the check yet, but all this did was annoy the owner. It was over $300 and I would have liked to have had the money back, but eventually it came down to a lesson learned on my part. Just a word to the wise, so that you don't get pinched as I did :(

Cheers,
Frank

I bought a KMA rear winch bumper for my Dodge 2500. It took a while, like 3 months, but I got a very rugged bumper, that fits very well, for a fair price. Just don't expect a quick response.

OK, Thanks for all the reviews guys. Right now I am looking at several options. My options for my front bumper is either the Pre-Runner style W/ Winch or the Base-Model style (Like ARB) But without the winch and guards.

As for my rear bumper, I would just be looking at a base bumper with a Hitch in it.

Again, Thanks for the reviews guys. I just want to do a good amount of research before placing such an expensive order.

They are about 4 miles from me and I've been meaning for years to stop by.
At one point they were looking for a D1 to use for a rear bumper design and I thought it might be a good way to get a free bumper, but never pursued it.

Stay away! I know a few people that had very bad experiences with them. Everything starts well but as soon as you give him money, good luck with the rest.

I think the only way to do business with them, is if you are local and can constantly drop in to check on their work. My .02

Yup, Seems like this was one of the more consistent reasons people said stay away. Do you guys have any idea of another company that makes bumpers for the same price or close?

Seems like ARB Is out of my price range. TJM moved out of the USA Market. Not sure where to really look next.

Thanks for the reference there Zig! Blue, click on the link in my sig and page through the build thread. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via PM.

My order from KMA went pretty smoothly, they built it within about 9 days of their estimated delivery time, and fixed an error for free. That said I did have to drill my own mounting holes (which kinda mystified me) and cleaned up the edges and welds with a grinder, and repainted it. It is rock solid and has held up very well for the almost 2 years I have had it.

All that said, it seems that they cant get all their issues ironed out and there are unhappy people scattered all over the internet. I had a simply terrible experience trying to place an order from Road Armor bumpers and felt very glad to have gotten my money back from them. I have read similar horror stories about Buckstop and other aftermarket companies as well. It seems that the aftermarket accessories market knows that they can do whatever they like with their customers since they make stuff that is specialized.

Bottom line, whomever you may use to get goodies for your rig, do some research on the net, buyer beware and it is best to go in with eyes wide open.

Thanks for the help! I am currently emailing back and forth with KMA and asking some questions. Hopefully I get the answers I am looking for and make a purchase soon.

The decision now is whether I want a Full-Replacement, Or a Pre-Runner style replacment.

Thoughts on this?

I ordered a winch bumper for a ford truck, took for ever to get it, did not fit well, and had slight shipping damage, was not willing to send it back and wait again so i made it work.
Not worth the money, and the quality was not the best.

KMA Bumpers

I ordered both front and rear bumpers with a Warn 8000lb winch from Kennesaw Mount Accessories. He told me it was gonna take about a month and a half to get the materials and build them. Right on time he e-mailed me and said they were ready to be mounted. I drove up, he mounted them, and they look friggin awesome! I'm more than satisfied with their products. The folks that said the bumpers had poor welds and were unsatisfied must have gotten the 'Friday Afternoon' bumpers. Mine are very high quality. Just my $0.02 ;)
