Renaissance Redneck
There has been a ton of these for sale lately. A bunch of people have been complaining about engine noise. Not to rain on the sellers parade, but I have seen a couple that are FULLY done and resto'd for similar money...

I've noticed the same, a bunch of 4BT conversions for sale lately. Always seemed like a bad idea to me. A 237 cubic inch 4 cylinder diesel can't help but shake at idle much worse than my Rabbit diesel does.

The 6.5L conversion the the seller mentions obliquely would be much more interesting to me.

Are these conversions really getting that kind of $$? Does it appear to be sagging a lot in the back, maybe it's how it's parked.

No knock on this particular vehicle, but I wonder why so many
diesel conversions include lines like "only 3,000 miles on the
rebuilt motor." Could it be that the owners are unhappy with
the result? Or did they start the project just for the experience,
and now they're moving on to something new? Or was the
project just a way to make money? Or were they unable to
get the vehicle licensed?

In this particular case, the photo of the engine compartment
looks very tidy.

Though the 4bt is a rough and loud engine, I suspect the availability of these converted trucks has more to do with the economy than anything else. People put their extra pesos into a project and then need to sell it to pay the bills....Just a sign of the times I guess.

everyday life with a diesel is prolly not what some folks think about when dreaming of the coolness to own it, especially a 4BT.

It is with my 7.3L PSD! But I agree the difference between my truck and a 4BT is like apples and oranges. I had a very clean FJ62 and the gas motor was a slug too, a V8 Chevy is the only way to go on these rigs IMO, but I'll keep my Ford!
