Labor day weekend and GWNF

Friend Clay and I went up to the Northern part of George Washington National Forest for two nights of camping, paddling, hiking, and wheeling. Had a blast!

First night (Saturday) was spent in a swampy mud hole. We didn't pull in until 830pm, it was starting to rain with threats of MUCH rain to come, so we just wanted someplace to pitch the tents before it really came down.

While exploring Sunday we came across a cable bridge straight out of an Indiana Jones movie. There was no way we could pass it up, so across we went!

I didn't get too many pictures from most of our wanderings, but Sunday evening while looking for a spot to stay the night, we found a perfect camp site on the other bank and up Dry River a bit. I checked it out and it had a good solid bottom, so off we went...
Note:pictures are actually from the next morning driving down river, water was higher over the hood when driving against the current.

Monday morning we got up and had a leisurely breakfast before heading back to Richmond to visit a friend for a bit and then head home. I can't wait until it gets cold and snows so I can go back and play in some cold white stuff!

You just had to find a deep spot to justify your snorkel purchase, didn't you :xxrotflma

Just kidding with ya, looks like a fun trip.

Well to be entirely truthful, I could have crossed in shallower places :shakin:

HAHA, I know! The first one was anoying with all the mud, but the second site really wasnt that bad; rocky yes, but with my extra thick Thermarest I hardly felt it. However, my buddie sure had a nice spot, sand and grass, and compleatly flat! (he beat me to tent site selection.

We Drove some trails south of Harrisonburg, and then drove Dry Creek Rd (our camp is just up Dry Creek from the road).
