Did a little road trip last week. Austin-OKC-Lake City and back. Picked up my mom and dad from their place right outside Oklahoma City and then headed west in the Jeep to Lake City. We stayed at Pleasant View Resort on the south side of Lake City. This was my 2nd time to rent a cabin from this place - nice people, comfortable, rustic cabin, reasonable price - I'd recommend them to anyone.
The weather was beautiful - cold at night, in the 60s during the day. The main passes in the area - Engineer and Cinnamon were both closed. We were able to get up to the top of Engineer but couldn't cross over to the other side due to snow and ice.
We also did some exploring up around Slumgullion Pass, Los Pinos Pass and a few other smaller off-road trails.
The road conditions were pretty good everywhere we went. I rarely needed to use 4WD and only used 4LO in one small place where there was a very steep incline with alot of loose gravel.
The trees still had quite a bit of color on them. Particularly beautiful was a drive on hiway 12 from La Veta to Trinidad on our drive home. This goes through the Cuchara Valley, along the Cuchara River. Every color imaginable, just stunning.
Here's a link to my little album. I didn't take a whole lot of pictures this time out, but I hope you'll enjoy.
