I just joined a Search and Rescue Team in Mass. I was wondering if any one knew of any map and compass courses. Are there any good books as well to read.:smiley_drive:
Ahhh we've spoken on the JK-Forum before I believe. There is a map/compass course that's taught through the state. Here is a link. Check back periodically because they update them all throughout the year. I plan to go to the next one they hold as long as I have the day off. Perhaps I'll see you there.I just joined a Search and Rescue Team in Mass. I was wondering if any one knew of any map and compass courses. Are there any good books as well to read.:smiley_drive:
We have thank you. My Jk purchase has had to take a back seat for the time being. I'm going to be building up my o4 Liberty.:smiley_drive:Ahhh we've spoken on the JK-Forum before I believe. I will check out the funsar course material,:smiley_drive: thank youI'd recommending checking out NASAR's bookstore. I'm putting together a Land Nav course in my neck of the woods for local CERT members, and have also been researching this. NASAR has a Land Nav instructor's guide, but I'm not terribly impressed with it. It is slim on info, and porrly put together. A much better resource in my opinion is the Land Nav unit in the FUNSAR course manual. If you joined a SAR team, you'll probably eventually want to earn a SARTECH II (or even I), and even if you don't the FUNSAR course book is a great resource and well made.

Thank you, If I find out when either one is I will let you know.:smiley_drive:Well if you need anything shoot me a PM on any of the forums i'll see what I can do. I just spoke with an environmental police officer and he said the map courses are in pittsfield and gardner. I think it was Gardner, anyways there should be another one coming up.
Here is an online copy of the Army Field Manual 3-25.26 (MAP READING AND LAND NAVIGATION)
