Is anybody interested in buying a Land Rover 130 Crew Cab? I have one sitting in England, ready to be restored and shipped to Colorado. It would be sold with a clear Colorado title.

Um, what year is the 130, what would be the engine & what would it be titled as?

I'm interested please feel free to send me some info

from a buyers point of view

it is an interesting market isn't it right now?

with the US economy on the express down slide, oil futures going maniacal on both sides of the pond, big SUV production plants being cut every where, diesel fuel only being offered in 25% of the USA and MOST Defenders being diesel, along with the Customs laws allowing new rigs in, it really will make it tough for people who want to sell their rigs over seas since only a small fraction of the population here actually would enjoy the severe lack of amenities offered on a Defender.

That makes selling a Defender a hard case! so best of luck d=(^^)z

you can certainly contact me for future Defender sales as I am in the market

I have my eye on a 1985 130 fully loaded from mrmlandrover in Grantham for $6,999 UK - it has been there awhile too so I think they would be negotiable.

Condition looks like a 7 out of 10.

My gf and I could always fly over to Europe and drive around awhile before shipping back, like a new Euro delivery program! :wings:

I'm waiting on the purchase because I believe with British petrol @ $10 bucks a gallon and Rover production later than 1983 producing 40,000+ units a year, we will see plenty of Defenders crossing the pond for reasonable prices (under $30K US)

Land Rover Owner International had an article about it last month advising UK readers that if they want to sell their Defenders to the US they need to be in fine condition because Americans don't like fixing cars much or refurbishing ... which is true for MOST Americans unless you run a TV show about cars or are like Portal members

I think the days of $50,000 + Defenders are over if you want to sell them, you can price it high but it won't sell fast if at all .... who enjoys having a car of all things, that you have put time and labor into just sitting .. check out Defenders on ebay, not one has moved in months ... the same guys/dealers keep putting the same cars up paying a fortune in ebay prices which I imagine make it harder to negotiate the price ... or maybe it makes it easier if you have ever had the experience of trying to sell a car no one wants to buy

my best friend leaves on Wed for the UK for 3 weeks, he is doing some hunting for me so I will share what he finds me and the costs - should be informative

The Land Rover Sales Experience in a downward economy

my gf wants this 2003 HSE7 Monte Carlo Blue Disco with 7 seats and 60K miles on it we found offered by a US dealer - they want $20K USA even though the same car is selling between $9-11K USA in other colors.

In about a year I think that car will be worth less than my shirt or anything you can get for it - so I don't plan on offering the dealer remotely close to what they want ( I never understood paying extra for a certified car that was most likely bought at auction especially when its warranty is out )

I sold my 2004 HSE in pristine condition for $17,500 ( 50K miles ) one year ago April. It took months to sell it at that price on ebay/net and cost me about $600 in fees mostly from ebay who has since increased their charges

If the dealer laughs at me when I offer a rock bottom price, I will applaud them for their willingness to pay for the car themselves when every good business knows that in this type of situation, any business is better than no business!

several local Chevy dealers have recently gone out of business where I live - I got a flyer in the mail yesterday to one of them for free merchandise/small cash rewards if you show up to their Going Out Of Business sale - the flyer arrived a few days after they went out of business lol :coffee:

"...diesel fuel only being offered in 25% of the USA..."

I guess I didn't get this memo. Please explain!

I read that information in the NY Times in an article about energy and there was a piece on 60 minutes too talking about Montana laws, alternative fuel (corn) and the availability of diesel and Ethanol etc across the US.

Only 1 out of every 4 gas stations in America have diesel. There was a study some place that said 23% of people polled said they would never buy a diesel because of the availability of the fuel. I will see if I can find it on the net for you :)

The above remarks are just my opinion about the market, so please read them with a sense of levity :D

PS

I called on the truck and it used to be a loaner. Is that bad? It has a small dent high in the back upper panel by the rear lights and part of the windshield panel is missing and to be replaced, evidently the work of the car wash. The purge valve was replaced and an ABS sensor. No rust. With that information I think it might be cheaper to buy an SE and add the seats and winter package as I don't really want to insult anyone. It was a trade in. The asking price is $20,000 and there are 4 or 5 2003 SE in the same color with 30K miles on the net with ASKING prices of $11,000 - maybe more economic to go with an SE and just add the options of 7 seats and winter package? I can't get on Dweb right now to do a search

It would be titled as 1983 Land Rover, the buyer would choose the engine, either 3.5 liter V-8, 200 Tdi or 300Tdi. Thanks, Tomas

That would be a hard one to transfer to California. None of those engines were in vehicles imported to the US. California is kind of fussy about that on post 1974 vehicles. My guess is the best way to get it registered in California would be to ship it with a 2.25L diesel and have a 300tdi & R380 arrive in a different box.

the 2.25L engines along with the 2.6 six were the last imported until the 3.9 V8.

Did they make 130's in 1983? From the pictures the 110 appears to be newer than '83 (badging & side markers on the front wings).

Actually they did make 127's in 1983. I had a bulkhead, some doors and some frame bits from one. I believe a few parts from it made it into my CrewCab. '83 was the first year, but it had the sliding windows front and back, which are very rare and desirable. I even think that the rear doors split in half just like the front ones. Timm ended up with all of my '83 doors.

It would be titled as 1983 Land Rover 127, just like Michael Slade said. We could bring it to California for you with the original engine and you could do the conversion your self TeriAnn. Are you interested? Thank you, Tomas

The 110 is really 1983 Land Rover. During the restoration most of the old body panels have been replaced with new panels, as I stated in the 110 thread.
Thank you for your interest, Tomas

My understanding is that the 110 was introduced in mid '83, the 90 in '84, and the 127 was a Special Vehicles modification of a 110, first made in 1985. Only in 1990, did the 127 (renamed the 130!) get made on the assembly line - prior to that they were all "cut and shut" 110s made by Land Rover SV.

The VIN will tell.
