Land Rover TReK Disco-a few Q's...

Good morning everyone!

After returning from the Rally in Moab this last weekend, I have the bug BAD again to step into another Landy. My wife won't let me get another 90 right now, as we have three kids, and it does get kinda cold here in the winter. I have a lead on a TReK Disco II, and I have a few questions about them.

I know they are somewhat rare (15ish made, if my foggy memory serves me right.), but what are they actually worth? The truck I am looking at needs a respray, is in fairly good condition inside, and the rack needs to be stripped and powder coated. Milage is ~90K. All of this brings up question number two, which is...

Are the decals that were on the TReK sans the door emblems were stripped from the truck at some point. I really, REALLY would like to restore it to it's former glory in that aspect, and am wondering if the decal kits are a LR part, or if they can be sourced aftermarket. I don't have any real place to start with this as the decals are not on the truck, and my decal guy can't do anything with the pictures I provided. My local LR dealership, as helpful as they are, HATE to deal with anything older than a RR Sport, and after a brief look in their computer they could come up with nothing as far as decals or decal sets for the TReK other than the "LAND ROVER" on the front of the hood.

Any and or all help would be greatly appreciated-Thanks again!!!

Contact Dale Knepp, he is on these boards, i think his handle is rovertrader or something. Excellent guy to deal with, he has a Trek D2 in excellent condition and is looking to sell it.

I dont believe the trek decals can be sourced aftermarket either.

If you have a Defender now, and really want a Disco, I suggest going with a D1. Many common parts. With a DII, very few common parts.

Glad you're back safe Dave.

There was one here locally a while back...the guy who managed the rustic themed hotel up on 86th St in Johnston owned it...Stony Creek Inn?

I was going to suggest a phone call to Dale too.

Let's get together sometime!

Monkeyboy-

Man you missed out! It was a FANTASTIC trip, and there were some incredible rigs! We are already planning another trip out there, and I can't wait to get back! I didn't make the events on Friday, so I am not sure where in Colorado the event will be next year-if anyone caught the location please post up!

Has anyone seen what these have been trading for? I know what I can get a "regular" Disco II for, but I didn't know if the TReK trucks were bringing more money.

I would like to stick with the DII, as I actually like the additional room they have for the kids, and it would be neat to have a TReK truck. Having sold my Defender last fall to my brother, I have been without a LR for almost a year-the longest stretch since I was in college!

Thanks again!

I will tell you from first hand experience, that ... yes, Dale's Trek is high money, ... it is the best sorted Trek (or DII for that matter) in the Country! It has been gone through front to rear and it set up like no other Trek in the country.
He is selling it reluctantly, but he realizes that these things need to be driven (they like to be driven) and he is only one man ... with too many truck! :coffeedrink:

You should at least seriously check his truck out as it would cost you more to get into, ... but much less over the long haul!!

And I have no affiliation other than being a good friend!

BTW: Here is the link to the truck being discussed:

Thanks guys for all the kind words!!
The TReK trucks are a rare breed, initially wore a +$25k sticker increase, and now qualify for CT Owners Club. Are they worth the $$- totally up to the individual. I have had several, more than anyone I've been told, so to me- yes they are. I have sold several- some at very high prices, as the lower mileage trucks are really hard to find. The graphics can be replicated, to the tune of $1k parts only. And you have to remove the old...
So, why am I asking what I am- try to find one like it, and you will see. Orig sub 60k miles, completely gone through with 60k service, and anything that leaked was replaced- radiator was seeping in one corner- replaced, head gasket damp- replace it, new graphics, etc. Then there is the additional equipment- bumpers, skids, axles, gears, lockers, Ashcroft CDL kit, tires, wheels, etc. And lastly, the inherent condition of the truck- all original shiney paint, zero rust, etc. In all, it could not be duplicated for the price, or even close.
Like any other truck, buy all you can going in- way cheaper in the long run. Feel free to give me a call to discuss my truck, or any of the others you may be looking at- I'll give all the help I can.
Cheers,
Dale
