LED lantern for camping (not for inside of tent)

Saw the tent light thread, but I am wanting a new one for outside.

I have the 12 LED remote lantern I bought from Cabelas a few years ago.
They make a 24 LED one too.

I am not very impressed with the light output of the 12 LED one, and the reviews for their 24 LED are a bit better.

I seem to have lost my remote for my current one, so I will use it at home during power outages, but I want a better one with remote for camping.
I do use a propane lantern too that I use at night by the campfire to read with, but I like having one on the awning so when I get up to go near the rig I can see.

Browsing Amazon they seem to have a few nice ones with remotes.

No reviews yet on the one above, anyone familiar with it?

That is pretty cool, have not seen that one before.
Does it also have an on/off switch?

I did pick up a few landscape LED lights that are solar powered, I saw a guy using them for lighting around his camp.
They go into the ground with a spike.
Thinking about placing those at the bottom of my tents ladder.

The one you have are you impressed with the light output?
If so, I would get one for the awning, and maybe one for inside the crapper enclosure.

PS, I found the other video showing it has an on/off switch on top.
These are cool, I think I will order up a few.

You sold me on them, I placed an order for three of them.
Still going to order a new lantern though, perhaps the 24 LED Cabelas one.

Not a remote light, but it's been claiming to be one of the brightest LED lanterns for good while..

That Rayovac and Nichia lantern look almost identical except for the remote on the Nichia. I have a couple of the Rayovacs and they work great. Might pickup one of the Nichias with remote for inside the tent.

This Nichia 230 Lumens LED Lantern looks pretty impressive at that output, and can also be hung upside down for use in a tent, not that I would use it that way, my tent has a 12v light built in, although I am looking later at replacing it for a brighter one too.

Same thing here Corey. You can hang the Light A Life Light anywhere you want. It has a 20,000 hr life and is bright as all get out. here is the link. If you want more info PM me.

Thanks Ramjet, those and the solar setups look cool.

I ended up getting the 24 LED Cabelas lantern with the remote, and three of those solar Nokero bulbs.

I might look into those other ones in the future in your link since I run a 60 watt foldable solar panel.
I would just need to see if it is compatible with those battery packs the bulbs plug into.

I would have to check the connections, but I don't rule anything out with Goal Zero. I will be at the Expo in April with my rig full of Goal Zero product installed and running my Fridge and lighting.

Thought I would add my experience for those looking for reviews on electric camp lanterns. Ultimately what I am looking for is something to replace the trusty ole gas lantern. I realize that electric will not be as bright, but tired of having to replace them mantels after every trip (seems mantles do not like 4X4ing!). I want the convenience of just flipping a switch.

I have a Coleman Northstar Battery Family Size Lantern - 5359:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Northstar-Battery-Lantern-5359M701/dp/B0000A2I0A"]Amazon.com: Coleman Northstar Battery Family Size Lantern - 5359M701: Sports & Outdoors[/ame]
and have used it for years, but was hoping LED technology had surpassed it.

So I recently I purchased a Black Diamond 250 lumen Titan Lantern:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Black-Diamond-BD620701BLAKALL1-Titan-Lantern/dp/B002QW0DZW/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289528173&sr=1-1-fkmr1"]Amazon.com: Black Diamond Titan Lantern: Sports & Outdoors[/ame]

While the Black Diamond might be a tad brighter than the Coleman, I am disappointed in the Black Diamond’s light pattern. The Coleman has a nice even light pattern, but the Black Diamond puts out a very narrow (vertically) beam for 360 degrees. Areas in that beam are well lit up, but areas below and above the beam are in the dark.

A plus for the Black Diamond is that being LED it uses half the batteries than the Coleman (4 versus 8), and probably lasts longer per set.
I will still probably use the Coleman as my main camp light with the Black Diamond as a second source in camp.

Coleman has a couple new (well newer than my 5359) that might be promising:

But have not tried them-- and probably won't unless I sell my Black Diamond or the 5359 dies.

My Cabelas 24 LED came yesterday, and it is a little brighter than the 12 LED one, but not much.
But I was not buying this one to replace my propane one, just to light up the area under the awning.

Still waiting to hear from Nokero on those solar ones I bought, they seem to be slow in getting back to you once you place your order with them.

Tractor Supply Co has been selling a 12 LED lantern that uses 3 D-cells. I have been using it at the Gun Range in the storage sheds in the predawn hours. Not the greatest light but at $5.00 a pop, not to bad.

I heard from Nokero today, the lights will not be here for quite awhile.
I had no idea they ship them directly from China to your doorstep.

The bizz is in Colorado, but all the inventory is in China.

Good news is they might start selling these in the future via Amazon.
I hope they offer them as a Prime item for fast one and two day shipping.

I do not think I would have ordered these had I known they are coming on a slow boat from China.
I hope they are packed very well.

We use the Cabellas 12 and it is what the wife requires. She can be in the tent hit the remote and light the way to the commode. As this is in Montana and bear country she would rather have the path lit than carrying a flashlight.
