I went and looked at this dormobile sunday. I'm not a land rover guy but have always thought these were cool. The truck is in very original condition.
The frame and outriggers have surface rust and there is a some pitting but it looked like a wire brush and some rust neutralizer would take care of it. Most of the undercoating is still there. The interior is amazingly original. Has two rows of bench seats that both fold down to make a bed for two. The roof pops up and there are two cot style beds. The back has what appears to be the original porta potty cabinet, propane stove and sink. It had a Propane fridge originally but the owner took it out and lost it. Has what appears to be original privacy curtains that can be pulled all the way around the inside of the truck. The body was originally a "sea foam" color but is now maroon. The paint is peeling in many places.
The current owners are the second owners. The original owners took it to Austrailia on a couple "expeditions" The previous owner supposedly also put a heavy duty rear end in it and changed the gears.
The current owners had it tuned up recently and it starts and runs pretty well. The breaks were re-done several years ago when the previous owners bought it but when I drove it I still had to pump the brakes.
I didn't mess with all the switches, but the wiring seemed to be original and in good condition.
The current owner said the LR was specifically ordered from UK with the dormobile package. I think that means it will not be the NADA 6cyl engine which I gather has a little better power?
I liked the truck a lot, but there is no overdrive and its top speed (redlined?) is maybe 50? The current owner said his mechanic advised to rebuild the carb b/c it is running rich. I don't know if it's running rich, but it had no power at all. There was no smoke and it seemed to run fine, but no power.
