Current plan of action
Doing a bit of expedited 'last minute' mods and work on the truck to prep it for a LOT of travel.

I've made the crazy idea to be one of those people who sell everything and go explore. Current estimated departure date is July, theres a lot of stuff that needs to get sold/donated, a bit of work I need to finish up, and quite a bit of modification and things I need to do to the truck to get it to where I want it.

I'm trying to get somewhat of an idea of what direction I am headed, and what I want to see or accomplish in those areas. If you have something off the beaten path thats great, or a sweet area to camp, post it up.

  • Yellowstone
  • Glacier
  • Banff
  • Pacific NW
  • Redwoods
  • Zion
  • Bryce
  • Escalante
Hole in the rock road, peekaboo canyon
    Detroit riprap
  • Grand Canyon

What I've done and am doing to prep the truck for full time camping:

Food
Indel B fridge
12 Gallon fresh water tank
Backpacking stove
Camp Partner 18" 2-burner stove mounted on a custom swingout (work in progress, stove is on the way)

Need:
Dry food storage/organization... not sure, guessing a bin of some sorts
Good idea for washing/wash basin

Sleep
Hammock
2 person backpacking tent
Platform in back of truck
20 and 0 degree sleeping bags
Klymit sleeping pad (thin)

Need:
Maybe a nice underquilt
Better sleeping pad (thicker with good R-value)

Hygene
Wet wipes
When its warm out 12 gallon tank makes a cool shower
Scrubba Portable Laundry bag
Camp Chef Water Heater (on the way)

Need:
Better shower enclosure (I'm thinking a shower curtain thats connected to a hula hoop at top and bottom... hang it from something and you're good to go.)

Storage
Bins under the platform in the bed
Possibly building a drawer and platform to replace the passenger rear seat. Only downside is the fridge is behind the drivers seat, so if I wanted to recline a seat, the passenger side is the only side that can do that... unless I build something that would block it.
Additional 42" Plano Roof box on the way

Power
Single group 31
100w Renogy Solar panel on the rack

Need:
Maybe a house battery to be able to charge stuff while the truck is off? Only thing I could need was to charge a laptop for trail stuff, and camera batteries.

General Vehicle needs:
Full size ax and mount
Full size shovel and mount
Rear light(s)
Telescoping camp flood light
Magnetic bug netting if I want to keep the windows open in a buggy area

Looks like a great build and sounds like which ever direction you take off on will be a good trip. Let us know what you think of the RCI Fab stuff, i used to live in fort collins and im planning on decking my Taco out in RCI skids when ever i get back.
What do you have for an onboard water system?
My two cents, if you're going to yellowstone dont miss hiking around in the Tetons as well, prettiest park in the nation if you ask me. If you heading through southeast utah i always use sand flats recreation area camp ground in moab as my base camp.

I'm very happy with the RCI products. Products are great quality, customer service is great... No thought of going anywhere else when I need something they offer.

Onboard water is a simple RV/food service tank from Valterra, a cheap water pump and the plumbing to make it all happen. I've been quite busy trying to get so much done lately, but most of the info is on my build thread on Tacoma World: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-screw-work-roadtrip-full-time-build.407850/

When I have spare time I'll work on adding pics and more info, but spare time is not coming easy lately.

Tetons have been suggested to me as well, and that seems like its going to be one of the first places outside of Colorado that I hit. Last year I spent about two months in the moab area, although never scratched the surface. SW Utah will be a place I spend a lot of time in, but it'll probably be fall by then.

Doesn't look like I'll have time to update two build/travel threads...

Having a hard time finding enough time to just get the truck ready along with everything else I'm juggling So the TW link will be the best bet.
