Limb risers without tabs or a rack?

Curious if there's any good way to get limb risers on my truck if I don't have a big rack (yet) and I don't have tabs on my ARB bullbar. I've seen somebody who just put screw in eyelets into their bullbar, but was hoping for a more "professional" looking install that that. I have no idea what to do at the top yet since I don't have a rack.

Your options are definitely limited. For the front you could make a L bracket that fits between your hood and the fender. Find a nice strong fender bolt and bolt that down. If you get the right sized metal you might be able to just barely make it between the hood and the side of the fender. Not sure if this would work on your vehicle or not. For the top the only idea I can think of is to use the stock mounting points (if you have any) for the roof rack. You could bolt a tab to that. Goodluck.

I'm no help on the top mount, but I have seen some folks using a metal band that fits around the brush guard and then fitting a small loop / clevis to that end.

Seems that it's some kind of standard electrical conduit part????

Perhaps an Adell Clamp?

Never knew the official name, but that's what I originally used, at both the bull bar and roll cage ends. I also attached a turnbuckle directly to the lower clamp.

After a couple years, though, it occurred to me that my branch deflectors had deflected nary a branch, so I ditched them.

Oh, I could weld tabs on myself. Then I need to repaint, etc... so I was avoiding that. But it is an option.

Those Adell clamps could work. Even up top, since I have the 2.5" rack tubes on the 04. I've also seen somebody make like a bracket that just clamps to the drip rail.

Do you need them or do you just want them? If the latter, wait.

Well, now that's a very good question I don't know the answer to. I think I need them, maybe it's a want, I dunno. Not just for looks, that's not what I'm going for.

Where I drive, it's always in the forest. Often on trails that are narrow for the truck. I constantly have branches dragging across the A-pillar and then up over the roof.

So, at what point do you "need"? Is there a use I'm missing? Is it just to protect from pinstriping? If so, I'm surprised Camel Trophy bothered, considering the other things they were doing to the trucks anyway. Do they do anything else other than prevent pinstriping?

This weekend, my wife had a branch come in her window. More of an annoyance than anything. Will these help that sort of thing?

As for the rack, I've started my rack build, though I imagine it'll be slow. I am going to use aluminum to try and keep the weight down. I picked up some 1x2x.125 aluminum tube I'll be using for the cross braces and legs and I'm going to start from there.

Atlantic British or Rovers North both offer a clamp by ARB that goes over the bar on the bumper that will accept either an antenna or a limb riser.
They are around $23 each if the price hasn't changed much in the last year or so.
Wait, ... here is a link:

You are on your own regarding the top of the car. Perhaps a cross member that runs between the factory roof bars? Not sure.

Hope this helps.

I might add, ... Rovers North makes pre fab limb risers that are all stainless, but they run around $180 for the pair. I thought I would save myself some money and make some by buying the parts at West Marine as they have the stainless cable and the machine that crimps on the proper parts to make the loops, etc.
Still ran me $180 and took me two hours to make them while in the store there.

Just FYI.

The ARB antenna mount would work, or just loop the cable around the bar at the bottom (have a loop swedged on the bottom of the cable so you and "slip-knot" it).

As for the top, IMO the very reason preventing you from attaching them, is the very reason you need them... a rack. I don't think trees running up your a-pillar are going to cause significant damage or pin-striping, none that won't start at the top of the a-pillar and continue towards the back, and the glass doesn't scatch. Its my opinion that the limb risers are really need to protect again damaging accessories, such as a rack or even a snorkel. The rack has a void between its floor, the roof of your vehicle and the front mounts. Limbs that get in this area could rip off a mount, bend your gutter or rip lights off the front of the rack. A prudent and useful investment if your in the trees alot with a rack equipped rig. Using them just to save a bit of potential scratches on the a-pillar... not really a need IMO.

I mounted two of the ARB antenna mounts on each end (made a gasket out of an inner tube to give better grip) and then used a stainless shackle mounted through the hole on the mount.
I made a loop at the end of the cable and ran it through the shackle.

Then I have a double turnbuckle about a quarter of the way up connected to the second cable:

Hope all this helps. Just go to Rovers North and buy the premade, or visit the cable rigging section of your local marine store. BUY STAINLESS. It is more money, but you'll be happy in the long run!

Hmmm... it makes sense that the main intent is to prevent trees from getting wedged between the rack and the roof.... Didn't think of that.

Oh yeah, I made some mounts to bolt my Hi-Lift to the antenna brackets on the ARB bar. At least, I think that's what the brackets are on the upper tube. They're pretty hefty. I'll show those soon because I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

There's been a fair amount to talk about limb riser mounts but no one mentioned the spring. Don't forget there should be a spring between the top and bottom mount to absorb the initial shock of the limb strike. Otherwise the force gets transmitted to the mounting bolts & holes, sometimes causing hole elongation, bolts to break or metal fatigue.

Here's the spring on a Camel Trophy D110

I've found 2 uses for limb riser wires:

1. to keep a limb from striking and possibly breaking a windscreen
2. As short clothes lines
