Yup. I have it on mine.

You load what you want on an SD card and pop it in. It wont overwrite the street version.

After you have an SD card loaded and installed.....Hit tools, settings, then map. At the bottom of the screen hit the button "map info" from there you can select or de-select which maps you want to show.

Awesome.

Thanks for the info.

One more question, any particular topo?
( I know Garmin comes on DVD but I suppose it could be copied to an SD 8gb )

one question does it leave a bread crumb trail at all? So you can track back to where you started? Or see which roads you have covered in a certain area?

That I dont know. I know the Garmin Topo on DVD works cause thats whats on mine. I did find once a topo file that works in Mapsource, but havent tried putting it on the Nuvi.

Yes...but its not the best and IIRC the points, or "crumbs" are limited. I havent done any extensive use of the bread crumb feature on the Nuvi. But it does have the capability.

Pardon my newb questions..

I understand SD cards are not created equal, capacity and speed being the differences? Can someone recommend what i need to pick up for my 255W?

Is Garmin Mapsource Topo the only program that will work... proprietary?

I'm just running a regular SanDisk 2gb SD card and it fits the western half of the US topo maps fine. I bet I could add some more, but I don't usually go east much, and it's just more maps for the GPS to think about when starting up.

As far as maps, I'm pretty sure only the garmin maps work, but I haven't tried others. I know garmin topo 2008 works as well as the older garmin topo USA (the free unlock one). I also have the 24k national park maps, but haven't attempted to put those on it.

I got the GPS a week ago, and thanks to Garmin's 60 day map update guarantee, I was able to update the preloaded 2009 streetmaps to 2010.
