Locating a power cable...

Our local ham shop sells a pre-terminated kit with dual in-line fuses and decent guage wire. I think its ~20' and is ~$10 for the kit. I'd suspect any place familiar with HAM installs would have them sitting on the shelf.

You might check Powerwerx. They have tons of cable and adapters.

I get all my stuff from them. I've also converted almost everything I have HAM related (and not Ham) over to the Anderson Power Poles so I can plug anything in anywhere I want.

I would just terminate the exist cord with an Anderson PowerPole connector, then make an add'l extension with PowerPoles at each end. Run it back through the console to wherever it needs to end.
This way it would be modular and easy to re-connect if you ever decide to move it back into the front area again.

I'm thinking I might just permanently solder the extension wire on permanently then I don't have to worry about having two connectors at the end. It will still clip in the front but it will be one long cable running the length of the car.

This is the final home of my HAM radio...it was fun under the seat but caused some issues with the airbag system.

I was going to post a link to these guys, but someone beat me to it. They have everything you need. Oddly, their website seems to be malfunctioning at the moment. Check back later, its a great resource.

You're right.
That's not good. I hope they are still in business. I was just going to place another order with them.

Famous last words. I've said that 'this' was the final configuration probably 4 times now. Different location, different radio, change to a speaker or cable routing. Mostly I find as I use the radio I figure out what works and doesn't, like not considering access for programming or APRS or getting to it when a cable fails or to replace or rework coax.

For your main problem, you can add wire, no problem. Just make sure to use the same gauge or bigger, solder and shrink wrap. You want to keep the two wires roughly the same length, too.

As long as you use quality properly sized cables and good connectors you can extend it. WHile i like power poles, I wouldnt want too many inline in a mobile system. One with properly clips to hold them in place is fine. What I would do is run a new cable from the batter to your radio deck location. Terminate it with power poles, Create a short fused cable from the radio and terminate it with power poles. This way you can move the radio as needed and still use power poles. As noted powerx has all you need
