Lock stitching amsteel blue

Hi,
What is the optimal material for lock stitching a splice in 3/8 amsteel blue winch line? Waxed whipping twine? Lash-it? Nylon twine from home depot? What size?

Thanks.

I used some waxed whipping line I bought at west marine. It even came with the needle. You can use some pretty small stuff as the lock stitch isn't taking the weight during a pull, its only there to keep the tail from pulling out when handling the line with no load on it. As soon as you apply a load, the outer line pulls tight and shrinks in diameter and holds tight on the inner buried tail. I think I used the 0.8mm stuff from ROBLINE. I also ran a piece of heat shrink tubing over the line before i made my eye, then ran it up and shrank it down to give it a finished look and also protect the stitching and line right behind the thimble.

I went by West Marine today and took a look at their whipping twines. I noticed they had a spool of 1mm fse robline dyneema whipping twine. I figured that would work as well as anything so I grabbed one. It seems quite a bit stronger than regular whipping twine and while I know the lock stitch isn't load bearing, I like the idea of having a really strong lock stitch thread.
