So, it wasn't exactly an expedition, but I leveraged a recent business trip to London to at least make it a little expedition related. Since this was my first trip to London I hit the typical tourist sites but added the following:
1) Greeenwich, of course. It was pretty cool for a GPS geek to get all zeros showing on the screen. I was surprised that I was the only one around with a GPS. Now I have to work on the lattitude side. I also got the required shot of one foot on each side of the prime meridian.
2) Royal Geographic Society visit. I am a member so I got to see the map room for the first time, although I was a bit disappointed. I expected more, just because I've been wanting to see it for so long that I built it up to be more than it is.
3) Stanfords. As a map and geography dork, I was in heaven. I actually blew off an afternoon of work to go back a second time. I planned many expeditions in my mind while browsing maps (Alto Plano here I come) and bought several books. I even got an awesome How to be and Explorer book for my son (He was stoked since he thinks he's Indiana Jones). There is a convenient pub next door too. The oldest in London I believe.
4) Natural History Museum. Really cool museum near the RGS with some great exhibits. Well worth a visit. The funny thing was that it was London Fashion Week and they had tents set up in front of the building. When I left there were a bunch of people waiting in line to get in for the eveneing. There were more freaky exhibits outside than inside the museum.
I would have included pictures if I could just attach them. I'll try to work on it.
