Looking for a close match to 255/85/16 for winter

I want to make a move toward the Discoverer A/TW but they do not yet make it in my existing 255/85/16. 238/85 and 265/75 are the options. 235 is a 10 ply and I would like something a bit more compliant, but fear 265 might be a negative in snow. I've got a 2.5" OME lift and the 255's clear easily. Staying with the A/TW, are there other alternative sizes? Thoughts? Experiences?

If you were to pull up one of those nifty metric to standard tire calculators you will see that it would be equal to a 33x9.50 tire, then google who still makes a tire in that size. BFG made the KO in that size but don't think they still do.

255/85R16 is approx a 33x10. 235/85R16 is a 32x9.25. 265/75 is a 32x10.25.

Closer to a 9.50 width would be better than a 10.50 for the snow and is why I suggested it. If I had to make a choice on metric tires for winter I would look at the Cooper AT3, they do much better than the KO's in the snow/ice.

KO's are crap in the snow. See if you can find a close size in the duratrac. Best snow tire I've ever had. Even if the size isn't the best fit for what you want, the tread/compounds will make up for it 10x

edit: I also really liked the Trxus MT by interco in snow/ice and they may a 255

I want to give the Discoverer A/tW a try - I absolutely love the ST's - amazing tread life, performance in sand and on rock, and actually pretty decent snow traction for Alaska. The smart move is a more focused winter tire for me this year.

why narrower for snow? I thought the idea was to stay on top of it, not cut down through it? As opposed to mud.

You want to cut down to the road and hard material underneath. Unless your in extreme situations where there is a very deep base. ( ie artic trucks)

If you're looking for a tire dedicated for winter, just run a true winter tire. Any all terrain will seem like a set of slicks in comparison.

The A/TW seems to be heavily biased toward winter without being a total compromise of super soft rubber and rock gathering micro sipes. Dedicated pure snows don't make much sense for me and my heavy adventure rig

I'd love to see the AT/W in a 255/85R16 as well. I've been wanting to find a good winter/AT tire in that size, but nothing exist. I think the closest thing you will find is the old Cooper ST. Which it sounds like you already have. But if I can dream the Duratrac in a 255/85R16 would be my tire of choice. But Goodyear has no interest in adding that size. I've asked them. The only other option might be to get the STMAXX or the new D Cepek Extreme Country. But they don't have the siping thats really needed for a good winter tire.
